Intel has officially announced its decision to cease direct investment in the Next Unit of Computing (NUC) department.

Going forward, the responsibility for further innovation and development of NUC mini PCs lies with Intel's ecosystem partners. Let's delve into the details surrounding this decision and its potential impact on the NUC ecosystem.

Intel stated, "We have decided to stop direct investment in the Next Unit of Computing Business and allow our ecosystem partners to continue NUC innovation and development." This decision does not affect other divisions of the company, and existing orders will be fulfilled as planned. Support for current NUC products will also be maintained for the foreseeable future. Since 2013, Intel has released thirteen generations of NUC PCs, with the most recent variant launched earlier this year. These PCs were typically sold as barebones kits that customers could assemble, although kits with essential components included were also available.

Intel's decision to halt direct investment in the NUC business signals a shift in the development of mini PCs. With Intel's ecosystem partners taking the reins, the future of NUC innovation will rely on their efforts while Intel focuses on optimizing its operations and cutting costs.
