Intel's hand-picked Core i9-12900KS might not yet be available. However, some companies began shipping the limited edition Alder Lake chip to clients. Seby9123 of Reddit was one of the lucky few who received a Core i9-12900KS before the rest of the world, and they put it through Cinebench R23.

The Core i9-12900KS will include the same number of cores as the Core i9-12900K. However, the Alder Lake processor's primary selling point is its faster clock rates. In a nutshell, buyers will benefit from a 200 MHz boost and base clock increase over the Core i9-12900K. The Redditor validated the Core i9-12900performance K's in Cinebench R23 tests, where two of the chip's P-cores were clocked at 5.5 GHz and the remainder at 5.2 GHz. On the other hand, the E-cores reached their maximum speed of 4 GHz.

Cinebench R23 is included in our CPU benchmarking package, which enables us to compare our current data for other CPUs to the Redditor's Core i9-12900KS findings. However, the user used DDR5-6200 at a timing of 32-38-38-76, whilst our DDR5 platform utilized DDR5-4400 at a timing of 36-36-36-72. Thus, the Redditor had the advantage due to their system's quicker RAM. On the other side, our DDR4 platform made use of DDR4-3200 with timings of 14-14-14-36. The Core i9-12900KS outperformed the Core i9-12900K by 6.7 percent in single-core performance (DDR5). Additionally, the Intel CPU outscored the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X by 29.6%. Additionally, the Cinebench R23 margins are somewhat greater than the Geekbench 5 entries that were previously leaked. The Core i9-12900KS outperformed the Core i9-12900K by 5.7 percent and the Ryzen 9 5950X by 9.2 percent in multi-core performance.

It remains to be seen whether the Core i9-12900KS will deliver substantial performance gains in real-world applications, and especially in gaming. When Intel unveiled the Core i9-12900KS, the chipmaker announced that the limited-edition Alder Lake processor will arrive before the end of this quarter. AMD has stated the Ryzen 7 5800X3D will ship on April 20, so the Core i9-12900KS shouldn't be far behind.
