HP fanless Chromebox actually has a fan
Haha, Hilarious. Ehm, Fanlesstech discovered that the HP fanless Chromebox actually has a fan.HP's Chromebox is being marketed as fanless when it's really not. Yep, a blatant lie. We didn't cover it previously since, obviously, a 17W CPU can't be cooled passively in such a small chassis, but Lon Seidman just played with it and confirms the fan's noise.
HP in its marketing material (pictured below), describes its Chromebox as being "silent, quiet, and efficient," and "dust-free" due to its "fanless design."
However when tested by YouTube-based hardware reviewer Lyon Siedman, he noticed a hum and vibration caused only by the presence of a fan. Then when you look at HP's very own disassembly guide (PDF), you'll find a picture that reveals its fan-heatsink, used to cool the 17W TDP CPU.

More then likely the fan is there in case of humid temperatures think of it as a fail safe to prevent damage like in countries like Africa where it runs 35C+, or if the vent becomes blocked or obstructed. Why else to they go from silent - to quiet in the add?

Man I would believe a fanless design if it had like a 286 or 386 cpu in it. So it has to be a marketing mistake. Or it is them specialty fans that run on load and are quiet on idle.
