Gigabyte unveiled its new NVMe M.2 SSD, the AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD, which boasts a PCI Express 5.0 (x4) connection. The product comes in two models: the 1TB model AG510K1T and the 2TB model AG510K2TB.

Last year, the AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD was announced, incorporating the latest 3D TLC NAND flash with 232 layers, the Phison controller E26 with 12nm manufacturing process, and DDR4 cache with SLC caching function. As a result, the SSD has shown an improvement of 37% in speed compared to its high-end model with PCI Express 4.0 (x4) connection. With sequential read and write speeds of 9,500MB/s and 8,500MB/s respectively, the 1TB model has a total write capacity of 700TBW. The 2TB model boasts even faster speeds with 10,000MB/s read and 9,500MB/s write speeds, and a total write capacity of 1,400TBW.

The AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD comes with a huge heat sink, the "M.2 Thermal Guard XTREME", designed to keep the device cool even under heavy use. The SSD consumes ~10W during reading and writing, which is quite a lot, but less than 85mV when idle. With a MTBF of 1.6 million hours and a 5-year warranty, the AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD is high-performance storage solution.

Update 2/23: First prices now have surfaced, Amazon and Newegg both have the Aorus Gen5 10000 2TB listed, but Amazon's page shows the SSD as "temporarily out of stock." Meanwhile, Newegg has listed the Aorus Gen5 10000 2TB as available for backorder and is priced at $339.99. In the Eu the prices are known as well, 399 euro.

It is worth noting that Gigabyte's previous generation Aorus Gen4 7000s Prem was launched at the same price point of $339.99. However, it is now available for $281.99 from Amazon and Newegg. The new Gen5 model costs almost $60 more, but it offers a performance boost. The Aorus Gen4 7000s Prem boasts maximum sequential reads of 7,000 MBps and sequential writes of 6,850 MBps.
