German webshop to sell Core i7 8700K with 99% silver heatspreader

While the default stress temperatures for Core i7 8700k is fine, in overclocked conditions they can be high. Especially if your proc needs a bit more voltage than the average Coffee Lake proc. The temps can be lowered be delidding the processor and replace the TIM.

German etailer Caseking now designed a new way to make a quick buck as the store will be offering a Core i7 8700K Ultra Edition that has been retrofitted with a 99.99% silver heater spreader.  In-between the heatspreader and processor die they will apply some liquid metal opposed to thermal paste.

In the table below you can check out the models versus prices. The procs will be binned for a guaranteed OC, of course at additional cost. The maximum clock frequency would be 5.2 GHz for the Core i7 8700k.

Core i7 8700K Ultra Edition
  • 5.2 GHz 870 euro
  • 5.1 GHz 750 euro
  • 5.0 GHz 690 euro

Yes, be prepared to pay a massive price premium  as that is 500 euros extra for the binned 5.2 GHz model. But at least they add the silver heatspreader and liquid metal opposed to some parties in the market that just bin them.

Oh wow.
Sort of says it all when even mainstream retailers are replacing the TIM before selling chips.

They have been offering this forever, its not exactly news (and not really mainstream either, they are the only one doing that and they employ a rather popular overclocker). News is the silver IHS though.
