Fujitsu, the Japanese electronics corporation, has affirmed its decision to discontinue the sale of personal computers (PCs) in the European market.

This strategic shift is scheduled to be enacted from the onset of spring in the year 2024. The PC sector has encountered consecutive periods of underwhelming sales performance.

A spokesperson representing Fujitsu has informed The Register that the company is in the process of transitioning into a 'DX company,' intending to facilitate digital transformation and emphasize sustainability. With meticulous contemplation, Fujitsu has concluded that it will cease its involvement in the client computing device sector across Europe. It is vital to underline that existing products will be maintained with support and warranty coverage. The forthcoming strategy for Fujitsu's European business endeavors aligns with the objective of becoming a "DX company" that assists clients in their digital transformation pursuits. Additionally, the focus is set on cultivating a business framework where sustainability transformation becomes the central theme. Given this perspective and thorough evaluation, Fujitsu plans to withdraw from the Client Computing Devices (CCD) sector within the European region. The continuity of support contracts pertinent to the CCD portfolio will be upheld, and the supply of CCD products will persist until April 2024. The execution timeline will be influenced by employee consultation processes and local regulations.

Consequently, this decision translates into the cessation of sales for LifeBook laptops, tablets, and Esprimo PCs in the European market within the forthcoming eight months or so. Importantly, the Fujitsu statement underscores that this choice exclusively pertains to the European territory. The organizational focus in Europe will shift towards fostering the existing server and storage business, alongside product-related services.

This development follows the company's March announcement regarding the forthcoming Arm-based A64FX processor's successor. Dubbed "MONAKA," this processor is envisioned as a versatile data center chip and is set to debut in 2027. Fujitsu asserts that it will deliver remarkable energy efficiency and significantly contribute to the realization of an environmentally conscious and sustainable society.

As the transition progresses, Fujitsu will continue to vend PCs within Europe until April 2024. Subsequent to this, the availability of LifeBook laptops, tablets, and Esprimo PCs will cease in the European market. The company will, however, persist in selling PCs in its other operational regions.
