Free to grab: Codemasters F1 2018 (Steam key)
You can grab a free copy of Codemasters F1 2018 this weekend. The game really is a classic and other then drivers, teams and a new track the game is pretty much the same as the new 2020 version we just reviewed.
Codemasters F1 2018 is available at Humble bundle, the one requirement is that you subscribe to their newsletter. Afterwards, you can easily unsubscribe of course. Well, or just a temporary email account. We consider F1 20178 to be a classic and even to-date we have been using it in our graphics cards and CPU reviews.
F1 2018 is a racing video game developed and published by Codemasters. The game is based on the 2018 Formula One season and includes all of the twenty circuits, twenty drivers and ten teams competing in the season. The game features an expanded team management mode, which offers players more control over research and development of car parts. Engine components and gearboxes are subject to wear and will ultimately fail, with players receiving grid penalties for exceeding their quota of components. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of international motorsport, will support F1 2017 as a platform for eSports, following similar moves by Formula E and the World Rally Championship. A variety of race formats are available to players after the sport's commercial holders expressed an interest in using gaming to trial potential race formats. The game features historic Formula One cars—which were last included in F1 2013—drawn from 1988 to 2010.
Once you subscribe you'll receive a key, and the good news is that it is a steam key. Go grab your key here.

The main page says I can't have it because I was once a subscriber. But it gave it to me anyways. Redeemed.

Already got it from when it was released.
This was the game, that for me and many others it seems, had a stuttering issue every lap (reported by a lot of people on the forums) and only fixed in the DX12 beta patch. That sounds great but the DX12 beta patch, unbelievably, was never finalised and officially released so it has a big Work in Progress banner across the top of the screen while you play it. I found it distracting personally and it ruined screenshots. Quite why Codemasters never released it properly is a mystery; all they had to do was remove the damn banner! The DX12 beta patch was to address the stuttering issue in DX11.
Thankfully, this issue was fixed in F1 2019 (and F1 2020) so the game runs fine in DX11 and DX12 mode. Wonder if this is why they're giving away F1 2018?
