EU mandates USB Type-C charging port to become the new standard for most electronic devices

All phones and tablets must have a USB-C port in the European Union. On Tuesday, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the EU member states reached an agreement.

As a result, the devices can be charged with the same cable in the future. Many different chargers are now required for various gadgets. According to the European Commission, using a standard charger is far more convenient for consumers.

Initially, the new laws will only apply to small and medium-sized gadgets like as phones, tablets, cameras, e-readers, and headphones. The legislation will go into effect in the fall of 2024. This provides manufacturers time to adjust their products to the new rules. Laptops must likewise meet the requirements forty months after the law takes effect.

The law also specifies that chargers will be sold separately from devices. Furthermore, because manufacturers still include conventional chargers with their products, a universal charger might save a lot of waste. Apple previously stated that it did not agree with the EU's proposals because they would result in a stagnation of innovation. They would also generate mountains of electronic waste because accessories for existing Apple devices would no longer be usable.

Another stupid decision from this stupid burocratic EU... Isn't more important things to think about? I can found many one myself.
The more it advance in time the more it act like soviet burocratic system, and i know what i am typing, i lived on both.
We might think about it, and what we want for EU.

Enough with this tripe. Most EU politicians are either directly elected (parliament) or appointed by people you elected (commision).

Also yeah, lets go back to the good old days where you had a drawer of 25 different charging cables and you still at times could not find the one you wanted to.

Democracy at its finest.
Some will agree, some will opose.
Let's see what this can bring to the table.
In my case, for all devices 5 smartphones and 1 tablet, its a relief.
If I would buy new devices, having the same charging port, it would be just the thing.
Someone can do some math about having a huge chunk of Europeans NOT buying more chargers...and can easily see less metal, plastic and packaging wasted.

Maybe sell less and lose business. Does the lose outweighs all benefits?
