DDR3 soon cheaper than DDR2

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 09/03/2009 09:54 AM | source: | 0 comment(s)

DigiTimes reports prices of DDR3 memory chips may soon drop under the price of DDR2 chips.

Spot pricing for 1Gb DDR2 chips has surpassed US$1.60, while 1Gb DDR3 prices are staying at range around US$1.90, the sources indicated. The crossover between the two segments is expected at somewhere below US$2, the sources added.

However, the crossover may also mean an end to the bullish rally for DDR2 chips, sending major DDR2 producers shifting their focus to DDR3 in order to survive, the sources commented [via digitimes].
