Crucial pulls MX500 SSD firmwares from website due to issues

Crucial pulls MX500 SSD firmwares from website due to issues

If you are the owner of an MX500 SSD from Crucial, be aware and don't update your firmware just yet if you grabbed the latest build and did not flash just yet.

An issue was discovered with the latest build version M3CR033. Roughly late September users reported that a firmware patch M3CR033 for MX500 SSDs could be propagated. Downloading the update itself and trying to install it also turned out to fail. The firmware should have solved an issue with SATA protocol errors and certain RAID configurations.

Meanwhile, the new firmware from Crucial's support page has disappeared. In fact, all versions have been removed, the site reports that no firmware updates are currently available. Owners of an MX500 can therefore not update their SSD for the moment. An affected reader from Computerbase received a short statement from Crucial support via email, confirming a problem with the firmware update that should be fixed soon. It is unclear whether older firmware updates such as from version 022 to version 023 will soon be possible again.

Disturbing to think, but, glad to be notified by HH, thank you.

I got 3 of these drives, pretty much as perfect as they could ever be, including a RAID-0 config running fine.

I have no need for this firmware, but hope they sort it for those that do.

Talking about close.
I own several MX500 and planned to upgrade the firmware today or tomorrow.
Glad that I signed in and read the news.
Thanks HH!

disturbing how? the firmware image is fine, the writer is just failing to find a supported drive because of a precondition blocking the application of the fw.

here's the current firewire's that are available (that I could fine) from crucial's website:
https://content.crucial.com/content/dam/crucial/support/ssd/firmware/ssdtool/mx500/cr/023/fwbin.zip
https://content.crucial.com/content/dam/crucial/support/ssd/firmware/ssdtool/mx500/cr/033/fwbin.zip

(I enumerated "/000/" - "/999/", was able to find 023 and 033).

funfact, even though the 023 using ssds were sold in retail packaging, the executive program is claiming they are oem only.......
