Stemming from a leak on the Discord of the well-known leaker Tom Henderson, the next game developed by DICE and EA will be called Battlefield 2042 , moving in between 1942 and the futuristic title of 2142 full of highlights, placing us in the near future.

The leak suggests that 2042 will have " the largest maps in Battlefield history, " made up of "Sectors," each roughly the scale of a Battlefield 3 map. These sectors would contain multiple points and cannot be recovered.  Teams will be able to choose one “ Pro ” per class, with one or two additional gadgets to enhance it (the post suggests a medic with healing darts that can heal from a distance). We may have one of these professionals per class in each squad, but they say they will not be out of balance. The leak also suggests that a beta version will be released later this month , following a closed testing session for big content creators and streamers.

The official announcement by EA will take place tomorrow, June 9th. 

Update: And it has been announced.  After much waiting and endless rumors, Electronic Arts and DICE officially announced Battlefield 2042 , which will arrive on PC and consoles on October 22. In addition, they shared a trailer showing 5 minutes of in-Engine action, that is, not including real gameplay of the game.

Electronic Arts has unveiled the latest Battlefield game through a trailer. Not unexpectedly, Battlefield 2042 takes place in the year 2042, which is a reference to the older BF1942 and BF2142 games. The latest Battlefield offspring will be released on October 22 and will be playable on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. It will be the first game in the series with a paid battle pass, although EA indicates that it is only about cosmetic items. According to developer DICE, the game should deliver battles on an unprecedented scale. For example, it will be possible to play with up to 128 players on a single map. This amount is only supported on PC, Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 users have to make do with a limit of 64 players. In addition, it is unclear how crossplay will work with this limitation. Compared to its recent predecessors, Battlefield 2042 comes without a campaign (nor battle royale), although EA and DICE indicate that the multiplayer will provide more information about the story here and there. As with BF2142, the world is hit by a climate crisis, although this is not a new ice age. When war breaks out between the superpowers, the camps fight it out with climate refugees by their side.
