Asus shows the XG49VQ Super Wide 49-inch gaming monitor with HDR
Asus has been showing the XG49VQ gaming monitor. As derived from the model, this is a screen with a 49 inches (124.46 cm) diagonal. The monitor will be a RoG Strix product loaded with multiple gaming-related functions.
The curved panel is setup in a 32:9 ratio gets a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz. The resolution of the screen is 3840 x 1080 pixels, and it has received FreeSync 2 certification and Vesa's DisplayHDR 400 certification. The XG49VQ covers 125 percent of the sRGB color space.
The monitor's ultra-high 144Hz maximum refresh rate should please many gamers. ASUS' Shadow Boost technology should also allow gamers to see players in darker areas of competitive first-person shooters more easily. "It's not cheating, just good design," said the company's gaming rep.

It's catering for people that want 3 monitor experience with no bezels.
Other then gaming, I can't imagine more use case scenarios for this.

3840x1080 is ideal to me, sure it's half the res of 4K, but it'd be so much easier on the GPU, you can prolly max out all video setting for any game and still get pretty good framerate.....with a top end card that is. I also like that it's a Freesync monitor, none of that inflated Gsync nonsense. I was actually surprised that it doesn't specify Gsync what with being an ROG designated monitor.

They're not meant for everyday desktop PC usage but for dedicated racing & flight sim rigs in your 'man cave'.

This tickles the tech of my brain, but...its 1080 vertical is really low, the DPI on that would be eye-straining in 2019
