AMD Zen 4 Notebook Processors Offer Efficiency and Gaming Performance Competitive with Intel's 13th Gen Core Raptor Lake

AMD's latest Zen 4 mobile processors, including the Ryzen 7045HX series, are gaining attention from notebook manufacturers due to their good efficiency and performance.

The Ryzen 7 7745HX, which features an 8-core/16-thread processor and a 5nm "Zen 4" chiplet, has a default TDP of 55 W and offers superior performance/Watt and gaming performance compared to Intel's 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" processors. The Chinese tech publication, Golden Pig Upgrade, reviewed a notebook powered by the 7745HX and found that it matched or beat the "Raptor Lake" in gaming performance, despite having fewer cores. Additionally, the Ryzen CPU consumes less power, leaving more power for the discrete GPU and providing minimally better gaming performance. According to the reviewer, the AMD CPU can gain an additional 3 to 5% performance boost through overclocking using AMD PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive), which can be enabled through the BIOS. The power efficiency of the Ryzen 7 7745HX is also notable, consuming an average of 50.9W compared to Intel CPUs which consume 46.5W and 79W at 1080p resolution. While the Core i7-13650HX leads at 1440p resolution, it is only by a few watts.

They could already release APUS based on these cpus or those with low consumption for minipcs with mini-itx boards.

I've been wanting a decent AMD mobile chip on an ITX board with a SAM-capable x16 PCIe slot for a long while. The CPUs have an excellent performance-per-watt ratio and are still plenty fast enough to handle 4K @ 60FPS gaming.
