AMD has officially unveiled its A620 chipset for the AM5 platform, succeeding the recent introduction of motherboards featuring this chipset by various manufacturers. The company's presentation slides reveal that the A620 chipset connects to the CPU using four PCIe 4.0 lanes.

Although it lacks support for PCIe 5.0 for graphics cards or SSDs, it accommodates 10Gbit/s transfer speeds for two USB ports and includes four SATA connectors. Additionally, the motherboard is compatible with EXPO, AMD's counterpart to XMP, enabling a boost in DDR5 memory speeds up to DDR5-6000.

It's important to mention that overclocking the CPU on A620 motherboards is not feasible. Moreover, an AMD slide suggests that Ryzen 7000 CPUs with TDPs exceeding 65W might receive limited support. Nevertheless, AMD asserts that these restrictions will exert a "minimal impact on game performance."

Though A620 motherboards may appear basic when compared to their B650 or X670 counterparts, they continue to deliver ample connectivity and bandwidth options, thus serving as a dependable platform. Moreover, the A620 chipset's attractive starting price of $85 makes it a desirable choice for those in search of a budget-friendly, yet reliable, motherboard.
