AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Available November 25th at 749 USD

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Available November 25th at 749 USD

It will be a busy month with lots of processor releases and reviews. AMD today has a number of announcements to make, the first being the Ryzen 9 3950X. The flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor will be available starting November the 25th.

The mainstream desktop solution will be bumped upwards towards a snazzy 16 cores (and I do need to call it a consumer desktop processor as it HEDT). Ryzen 9 3950X is available in two weeks' time. The base frequency for the 16 cores and 32 threads will be set at 3.5 GHz with a single core/thread boost frequency locking in at 4.7 GHz, which is the faster core for a Ryzen series 3000 processor yet. With a TDP at 105 Watts, the product isn't very power hungry either. The price of this processor will be 749 USD. In total AMD has announced 6, 8, 12 and 16-core processors for its 7nm fabbed Ryzen 3000 CPUs. The processor in combination with X570 and the new AGESA 1.0.0.4 will also receive a new ECO mode, which allows you to run 16-cores with a TDP of just 65 Watts. For the 3950X to function properly, motherboards need that bios based on AMD's Agesa 1.0.0.4 microcode. Motherboard manufacturers are actively updating their firmware as we speak.

The flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor will be available starting November the 25th, you may expect performance reviews with benchmarks before that timeframe.

I still don't understand how they're going to do 4.7 when my 3900x doesn't do 4.6 on the agesa 1004.

It's "up to" those clocks, maybe the best bins will manage it?

I guess - I personally think "up to" should be illegal but that's me.

God I love this marketing bs. Almost as much as the "effortless 1080p gaming". Who in their right mind buys a CPU to game at 1080p in the tail end of 2019. I wish they'd do away with this crap. It does them no favours. That said, this was the CPU I'd been waiting for before deciding on my upgrade path come Q1 2020. Looking forward to all the reviews.

I mean, they're directly addressing the concerns of Intel fanboys who would always mention that "Intel is the only choice for high refresh gaming", since in everything else Ryzen 1000 and especially 2000 series were extremely competitive, or even better due to more cores.

PS: really interested in this ECO mode, does this also works for other processors, such as the 3700x? Asking for a friend
