AMD Radeon VII will become available in reference design only

Ever since the Computex announcement there has been a lot of things said and spoken about the upcoming Radeon VII with it's 16GB of HBM2 graphics memory. Something new just surfaced, there will be no custom AIB cards.

So that means the VEGA20 powered graphics card will be offered in that triple fan based reference cooling design only. It also is kind of indicative that AMD will not put heaps of stock on the market, as this seems to be a somewhat more exclusive model, which at a price of 699 USD, of course, is a niche. There even is (unconfirmed) chatter that AMD would only make 5000 units available in the first launch wave. It's a bit of a bummer for the AIB partners, surely they will sell the product, but rather as an AIC (add-in card) as purchased from AMD.

AMD buyers that are interested won't need to wait long, the card is expected to become available in the first week of February 2019.
