AMD hints at dual-GPU Radeon R9 Fury X2 graphics card (again)
CeBIT is coming up next month, it might be possible timing wise. Anyway, on his Twitter account Scott over at AMD has posted holding a photo with two FIJI GPUs in his hand, that my friends would hint and indicate the dual-GPU based Radeon R9 Fury X2.
It is not the first time that AMD teases with it, or let alone shows it. Even last summer they have been showing a prototype. A few weeks ago the cards apparently have been spotted and seated into at least a prototype Falcon Northwest Tiki compact gaming desktop as well as HTC Vive HMD. Falcon Northwest already slipped that the dual-GPU Fiji based graphics card is very tiny and easily slips into a 4-inch thick Tiki.
Here is the photo that was shared:
The product will be small, really small. Which makes sense due to the HBM design, I mean look at Nano. It is rumored that dual-GPU Fiji under code-name Gemini would have 8 GB HBM1 graphics memory with a whopping 8192 stream processors.
It was already mentioned that the release of the Dual Fiji XT graphics card is on target for this year likely in Q2. In fact it was caught several times now being shipped as it turned up in an India based courier service. The code-name that was spotted is "Fiji Gemini", and we need to mention here that "Gemini" has been used by AMD before to indicate a dual-GPU product. The earlier photos however indicate two 8-pin PCI Express power connectors and thus an allowance up-to 375 Watt (which honestly is not bad).

One Radeon Fury X pushes close to 8.6 TFLOPS of performance, that means a dual-GPU version of it would offer over something close to 16 TFLOPs of single precision performance. And yes a dual-GPU Fiji would have 8 GB HBM1 graphics memory with a whopping 8192 stream processors. The PCB photo below is old though, that is an early prototype / enigneering samples from last summer.
It's time for AMD to stop teasing, as slowly this is becoming tagged as vaporware. Let's hope it'll be released soon.

The new cards are aimed at power saving it seems, so yeah a card like this would make sense in people want more power

Frankly I'm more worried about the limited 4GB VRAM. I doubt Vulkan and DX12 will be able to deliver SFR very soon so that the full 8GB VRAM will be used.
Fury X isn't exactly a card worth CFX-ing because of that alone. And I also don't understand why this card has such a late launch. One would think that that putting 2 GPUs on one PCB isn't that hard of a task. It really shouldn't be.
AMD really seem to be doing stupid stuff lately. No wonder they're struggling with money.

I kind of wondered if maybe they're forced into doing stupid stuff because they're struggling with money...

lol, i think Polaris will be great but there is still time till it comes, in the meantime AMD shouldn't look stupid as they pile up many mistakes upon mistakes... those who wants Fury X2 are very very limited people, same goes for dual maxwell. let 28nm die already.

So if they're going to put out a dual chip Fury X card soon, what does that say about the Polaris launch? It seems unlikely they would put out a Fury X2, then launch a brand new card a couple of months later, right? Seems like there would probably be a a decent sized window between them?
