AMD's AM5 platform has undergone significant enhancements in DDR5 memory support with the implementation of AGESA 1.0.0.7b, a new microcode update.

This update enables select motherboards to seamlessly achieve DDR5 frequencies up to 8000MHz, eliminating any potential issues. Additionally, the 1:1 (UCLK:MEMCLK) ratio has been optimized to reach 6400MHz. Demonstrating the stability of this update, Gigabyte and ASRock showcased flawless operation at 8000MHz and 7200MHz on the Aorus X670E Master and X670E Taichi motherboards, respectively. While currently available on a limited number of AM5 motherboards, wider distribution of the update is expected in the upcoming weeks, based on individual motherboard manufacturers' launch schedules.

An ASRock engineer provided detailed insights into the modifications included in the 1.0.0.7b microcode update. Notably, the update introduces a new setting called DDR5 Nitro Mode, which adjusts specific timing parameters within the memory controller of Ryzen 7000 CPUs to enable higher frequencies. Furthermore, the memory training process has undergone significant changes, allowing users to extend the initial memory training algorithm when necessary. This enhancement greatly improves the chances of successful operation with problematic DDR5 memory kits on AM5 motherboards.

According to the engineer, most Ryzen 7000 CPUs can comfortably operate at 6400MHz in a 1:1 ratio without encountering any failures. Furthermore, depending on the silicon quality, certain motherboards and CPUs may achieve frequencies of 7600-7800MHz when operating at higher ratios. This represents a significant improvement as previous reliability concerns arose beyond 6000MHz. It is important to note that the information provided by the ASRock engineer is specific to their boards, and it remains uncertain whether all these changes are directly attributed to the AGESA microcode update or if they are board-specific. Nonetheless, this update appears to resolve many of the memory-related issues that have affected AMD's AM5 platform, while enhancing support for ultra-fast memory kits within the 7000-8000MHz range, whether through stock configurations or manual overclocking
