The AMD 4800S desktop kit is a follow-up to the 4700S, which included a recycled Ariel SoC from the PlayStation 5 with the integrated RDNA2 graphics deactivated. The 4700S Mini-ITX kit only included a single PCIe x4 Gen 2.0 slot, which limited the kit's compatibility to lower-end graphics cards and the availability of high-speed storage and connection options.

Currently, as it seems AMD is developing desktop kits constructed from discarded video game consoles. The Ariel SoC in the 4700S Desktop Kit is the same one that is used by Sony for the PlayStation 5 console. AMD, on the other hand, is also developing Zen2/RDNA(2) SoCs for the Microsoft Xbox Series of consoles. It is possible that the 4800S is powered by an Xbox chip, however, we are unable to confirm this at this moment. The 4700S is a unit that has a faulty processor typically seen in a PlayStation 5 console. 3.6 GHz is the clock speed of the processor on this SoC, which is an AMD 4700S microprocessor with 16 threads and runs at 3.6 GHz. As a matter of course, this chip is soldered to the motherboard. In addition, the motherboard has either 8 or 16 GB of RAM. In the vast majority of cases, the GPU is faulty and must be turned off.

Assuming that the specifications are accurate, there are some significant variations between the 4700S and the 4800S. It contains a PCI-Express 4.0 slot for discrete GPU, whereas the 4700S only supported Gen2 of the PCI-Express bus. While the 4700S supported entry-level to mid-range graphics cards, the 4800S is said to support the Radeon RX 6600, which is included with the new Desktop Kit. Furthermore, the gadget will include an M.2 port for an SSD as well as a Wi-Fi card, allowing it to be utilized as a real desktop system for the first time in its existence. The fact that the 4800S will support AM4 CPU coolers should not be overlooked as an additional point of interest.

AMD 4800S Desktop Kit is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2022, according to our sources. A TUL (PowerColor) Radeon RX 6600 graphics card will be included as part of the package, which will be produced by MSI. We are not aware of any future versions of the game being developed.
