Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2 Highlights
Support For
- Gears Tactics
- Predator: Hunting Grounds
Fixed Issues
- Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience a system hang or black screen when running Folding@Home while also running an application using hardware acceleration of video content.
- A system crash or hang may be experienced when using Edge browser to play Netflix™ content.
- XSplit™ may experience an application hang or freeze when performing a scene switch.
- Minor stuttering may occur when performing a task switch with performance metrics overlay open in some games.
- Overwatch™ may experience an intermittent crash while entering a game or during extended gameplay sessions.
- Radeon RX 5700 series graphics product system configurations may intermittently experience a display loss or black screen while gaming or on desktop with a limited number of displays.
- Radeon Software may experience an application crash when playing games with non-alphanumeric characters in the game title.
- Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience an application crash with Microsoft® Teams when hardware acceleration is enabled.
- An ‘Unable to get requirements’ error message may intermittently occur when viewing the Upgrade Advisor tab in Radeon Software.
- Instant Replay or Record Desktop enabled.
- Resolved an install issue where Error 1603 could occur when an installation prerequisite for Visual C++ was not correctly detected as installed.
Known Issues
- Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
- Using Edge™ web browser to playback video content with a multi display system configuration may cause a system hang or crash after extended periods of use.
- Performance Metrics Overlay and Radeon WattMan incorrectly report higher than expected idle clock speeds on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products. Performance and power consumption are not impacted by this incorrect reporting.
- Modifying the HDMI Scaling slider may cause FPS to become locked to 30.
- Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
- Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience a system crash or TDR when performing multiple task switches using Alt+Tab.
- Desktop or In-game corruption may occur intermittently when HDR is enabled.
- Direct ML Media Filters are currently unavailable in Radeon Software Media gallery for video or image content.
- Some users may still experience black screen or system hang issues during extended periods of gameplay. AMD will continue to monitor and investigate reports of these issues closely.
- Some laptops may encounter a BSOD when installing Radeon™ Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition over an existing OEM graphics driver. To work around this issue, first uninstall the OEM graphics driver using Programs and Features within the Control Panel. Once complete, install the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition package and select the Factory Reset option during setup.

Am I imagining things, or does that list of "known issues" seem to be pretty consistent across driver releases?

Yeah unfortunately although AMD has added a few additional issues that have also been around for a while and there's some unlisted issues such as recurring problems with browser hardware acceleration or media playback.
Profiles not saving or defaulting, Wattman inconsistencies and longer standing unfixed issues for Polaris, Vega and Radeon VII in addition to Navi as well.
NVIDIA has a few as well as usual with display drivers and how complicated this is but some of these really should have been resolved by now let alone 1+ year of remaining unfixed which is a real problem.

For me at this point the new drivers is way better than the first release in Dec 2019. With that said it is still far from good. I still get weird black screen and aplication hang issues when I Alt + Tab while gaming.

At least it's acknowledged in the release notes though who knows how long it will take to get fixed.
Radeon RX Vega series graphics products may experience a system crash or TDR when performing multiple task switches using Alt+Tab.
Feels like AMD really ought to freeze things for a while and work out existing bugs but they probably don't have the team size to handle major rewrites or overhauls while also supporting the upcoming GPU hardware and the current games and apps and existing bugs and all that much as seeing long standing issues fixed would be really welcome at this point and it probably would also affect investors and all that stuff as a sort of admittance to how bad things might be much as the driver situation has improved and there's been a lot of fixes as well.

The issue that the mouse cursor's hardware acceleration causes several dropped frames per second, which can be worked around by setting MouseTrails to -1, is still there for me. DP 2560x1440 60Hz and HDMI 1920x1080 60Hz are both affected (two single monitor setups and one dual monitor setup were tested).
Intensity seems to vary from reboot to reboot - sometimes it's not too bad (hard to notice even), other times it feels like three frames are being dropped every twentieth frame.
Additional information:
Post in 2020.2.2 Drivers thread about the issue still persisting (includes my hardware config)
Very easy to reproduce with vsynctester.com at 60Hz
Linux is affected as well
Linux drivers issue thread on gitlab freedesktop (Windows 10 shows similar symptoms for me)
It seems that this is usually not a problem in games where (/while) no cursor is shown or where a software cursor is used, which, all things considered, makes sense.
I've already sent two or three reports about this issue via radeon software's bug report function since January with each subsequent report containing more detailed information about how to reproduce (last one included vsynctester in steps to reproduce).
I'm wondering whether the issue is included in the "some games may exhibit stutter" bullet point since it's a very specific issue and not seemingly random at all (edit: and it's also not directly game related, it happens during regular desktop use as well).
Stuff like this just needs to be worked out and resolved at this point.
(And other issues, stability, performance and all that which gets listed or confirmed as still being a problem by users.)
Nice fixes as with many of the post 19.12.2 Adrenaline 2020 drivers since early February or so but there's still more that needs to see a resolution and for some of these longer outstanding issues it never should have taken this long in the first place.
