Watch Dogs: Legion
PC graphics performance review and analysis

Are you ready for DirectX 12 and DirectX Raytracing?  We look at Watch Dogs: Legion in a PC graphics performance and PC gamer way. We'll test the game on the PC platform relative to graphics card performance with the latest AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Many graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked. The game was released on October 29 this year and received dimmed success as day-0 support showed poor performance. We decided to wait with this review as a new day-1 patch was inbound that would tackle most of the performance issues, ergo this slightly delayed review.

Based on feedback, we’re deploying a hotfix to address the performance issues we’re seeing on PC and it is coming to PC on Friday, October 30th. We will continue monitoring your feedback in the meantime to respond accordingly. Patch Notes:

  • Made several improvements to PC performance
  • Optimized performance to improve framerates for RTX GPUs
  • Fixed an issue that caused framerate drops to occur when characters walk through checkpoints
  • Improved the framerate performance when driving
  • Fixed a freeze when switching input controllers on PC
We’re also seeing players on PC experiencing crashes when playing on an outdated Windows version. We recommend updating your OS to updates 1903 or 1909 at the minimum, and strongly suggest having the latest OS system version installed when running the game. We will update this thread with the exact maintenance timings as soon as they are confirmed.

As such, we decided to sit it out and wait for this patch. Depending on your set-up, PC owners can expect a range of enhancements from this port, including supporting ultra wide monitors, the ability to run the game at 4K/60fps.  Strictly speaking, Watch Dogs Legion is an NVIDIA supported title; you can tell as DirectX Raytracing is supported as well as DLSS. The London of the near future in Watch Dogs: Legion wait with liveliness and nice realism with the help of real-time raytracing, said Chris Early from Ubisoft. It was confirmed that DirectX real-time raytracing is also supported, and Nvidia GeForce RTX is used as the official graphics platform. Ubisoft does everything it can to reproduce the cities that appear in their games faithfully. Raytracing will add an unprecedented depth to the look and feel of London in Watch Dogs: Legion. The close cooperation with the Watch Dogs series goes back to the beginnings of the franchise.

Many graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked.  You will need a reasonably modern PC with at least a mainstream graphics card to run the game nicely. This article will cover benchmarks in the sense of average framerates; we'll look at all popular resolutions scaling from Full HD (1920x1080), WQHD (2560x1440), and of course,,, Ultra HD. UHDTV (3840x2160) pixels, which are four times as many pixels as 1920x1080.  We test with the game based on the optimized and available AMD Radeon driver (download) and for Nvidia, their GeForce WHQL driver (download). We'll test the game on the PC platform relative to graphics card performance with the AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers.
