Age/Occupation/Location?

31 - PC Freak - Scotland

How long have you been a member of Guru3D forums?

Not a member, I am just a browser.

What did you first come here for?

I first came to the website a few years ago for drivers, but then realised there was more than just drivers to be had from the website.

What do you mainly use the system for?

I use the PC mainly for Power Gaming, Encoding and burning of DVD's and my music collection.

How much did you spend on the rig?

I spent just over £3100 for the box, That does not include monitor and other extra's. I did get a free T-shirt tho :) and also the Keyboard and mouse.

How often do you update/buy a new rig?

I upgrade certain pieces of hardware every 6 months and get a new pc every 12-18 months.

What components are used?

This rig is an Alienware Aurora 7500 SLI, It is made up of a AMD 4400 dualcore cpu, 2 XFX 7800gtx's 256mb, "I am in the process of selling those and have ordered 2 512mb versions of the 7800gtx", ASUS a8n sli deluxe, 4 x 512mb corsair Ultra low latency ram 2-2-2-5, 2gb total, Creative Audigy 2 zs Sound card, western digital caviar 200gb hdd sata, 1 seagate 160gb ata hdd, 1 samsung spinpoint 120gb ata. 1 nec dvdrw 16x dual layer, 1 msi cdrw 52x and a 600watt Enermax noisetaker psu.

Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel/AMD?

Nvidia, do i really need to answer that question ?

Does the system work as expected?

The system does fulfill expectations, except that some games have problems running in dualcore mode. A good few games seem to crash or freeze and usually all that is needed is to set affinity for the game to work perfect, but it caused a lot of headaches when i first got the pc in july.

What's the best part of your rig?

The 78s are the sexiest part of the rig in my opinion, the case itself come a close second. basically its a dual pc, dualcore cpu, dual channel ram, dual video cards and dual 12v rails on the psu :)

What sucks and should not have been bought?

What really gets on my nerves is the fact that it is loud, all the fans make it one loud S.O.B, and also there is a draft due to the fans :(

Modified cases/video cards/other? Did you do it yourself? Walk us through it.

Although the pc came pre built, It was taken apart within 2 days for me to have a proper look at it, and since july it has been taken apart and then re-assembled about 6 times since, mainly for cleaning and other little tweaks that I have done to it.

3DMark scores?

With release 75 of nvidia driver, I would attain just over the 10k mark, with the release 80 drivers i get an instant 2000 point increase. I get anywhere from 11700-12000 stock and with a touch of OC i get 12500. I stopped at 12500

Future upgrades?

As i have mentioned above, I am in the process of selling my 7800gtx's and have ordered 2 7800 gtx's 512mb, also I am seriously considering an fx57 but money is tight so it will have to wait, the same goes for the x-fi soundcard.
