DX12: Gears of War 5

Gears of War 5

Gears of War is back with the 5th iteration for PC. Gears 5 is a third-person shooter video game developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. It is the sixth installment of the Gears of War series and is the second Gears of War game not to be developed by Epic Games. And it's probably one of the best PC ports we've seen in a while as it has all the customization options you’d expect from a visual powerhouse, with all the ease of use of a console game. Gears 5 is looking to be something very promising, the game has had a nice graphics overhaul now being solely DX12 tied. The game port does, however, show proper PC support alongside a nice set of image quality options. We test at ultra quality settings. This game has been tested on the new 9900K platform.

Note: The 8GB card is the ASUS DUAL EVO, we also highlight a 4GB card, which is the Sapphire Pulse. We do this deliberately as in many games you can clearly see what will happen when you run out of VRAM and as to why we recommend at least 6GB of graphics memory these days.

  • Radeon RX 5500 XT (8GB) = ASUS DUAL EVO
  • Radeon RX 5500 XT (4GB) = Sapphire Pulse
By default a 4GB model is not slower than the 8GB model, however, if it runs out of VRAM, frame drops and stutters will occur, lowering FPS. Ergo, opt 8GB please.
