Overall the Patriot Viper V765 is a good mechanical keyboard. You get quality switches, configurable RGB backlighting, a rubberized wrist rest, programmable keys with a macro function, and multimedia buttons + a volume roller. One of the drawbacks is that the anti-ghosting works with up to eight keys, which might not be enough for some users. The Kailh White Box switches are classified as gaming switches by Patriot, but they’re quite hard and they’re actually better for typing. If you want to use the Viper V765 for games, the Red version is a better choice. The price is right, and USD 99 is good value for this product. There’s also a touch of elegance, because of the aluminum chassis. The Viper V765 has a good, soft wrist rest. The braided cable is also a positive side (and it’s not stiff). The volume wheel has a bit of resistance to it. The keycaps are made from ABS, but this is practically the standard solution in this price range.
Conclusion
The pricing is quite reasonable (99 USD) and end users will be pleased with the overall package and design. You need to remember that the White version of Kailh switches is the “typing” version, and if you’re more interested in gaming, then you should select the Reds. The market for mechanical keyboards is very crowded (and it’s still expanding), but this Patriot product still has some features that might make you want to choose it over the competition.
