Final Words 

The MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi motherboard was assessed as perfectly capable. Our testing of the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, a high-end gaming processor, produced results that were consistent with expectations and did not significantly deviate from the norm. The motherboard boasts powerful 17-phase 80A MOSFETs (17 virtual phases (14+2+1) aka 14 real phases making it an enthusiast product that also offers a good audio solution (ALC1200). In addition, the board provides a range of storage options, including an M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 socket. The Tomahawk aesthetic gives the motherboard a distinct high-end appearance.  The X670E requires two chipset chips, which typically results in a starting price of approximately $499.99 / 549 EUR. Despite its cost of over 300 USD/EUR, it is considered a valuable option in the premium market. However, it lacks features such as Thunderbolt or USB4. Nevertheless, it possesses other high-end features.

Performance

For this review, we employed a DDR5 6000 kit (with pretty usual CL36). In our memory scaling article, it is apparent that the performance of a DDR5 5200 MHz CL40 configuration is quite close. Choices here mostly are about bragging rights and obtaining that last bit of performance. However, the motherboard is excellent value for money, offering a wide range of features. The mobo features a sophisticated power phase design that could just as well handle a Ryzen 9 7950X 3D processor without difficulty. Although multi-gig Ethernet links and PCIe 5.0 M2 slots are useful features, they may not be necessary for all users. Overall performance was spot on, with nice tweaking options in your BIOS as well.

Energy efficiency

Added chips, RGB, and BIOS configuration are a bothersome factor when testing stuff like this. The motherboard Ryzen 7000 performs a little out of the scope of our normal realm. Expect a 60~70 Watts power draw in IDLE. Under total stress on the processors, the system comes back at roughly 170 Watts thanks to the new 120W TDP for X3D processors. Energy efficiency for this motherboard and processors as such are average at best. Keep that in mind with your cooling choice, as processor wattage usually is 1:1 in line with cooling performance. For any Ryzen 7000 series processor, recommend a proper LCS (all-in-one liquid cooling kit), for the 60W and X3D parts you can use a premium heatpipe cooler as well.

The conclusion

The E series in that 670E could have been short for Expensive, with a price hovering at 600 EUR We're happy to see a bit more value at just over 300 EUR. The question remains do you really need X670E? As B650 will get you there 99% of the time as well. Regardlessly the MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI seems a well-Constructed Motherboard with proper features and more affordable pricing. This motherboard most of the essential features that users expect from a high-end platform, combined with an affordable price that reflects the value of the investment made in the latest generation of processors. In the past the Tomahawk range has always been synonym with good quality, and the MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi motherboard is no exception. In addition to its robust construction, the MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi motherboard boasts impressive features. The X670E chipset offers compatibility with high-frequency DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0, ensuring that you can make the most of their system's potential into the future as really with a board like this you are a bit more future proof. While the MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi motherboard offers an array of proper features and performance, it comes at a more affordable price point. It's still a lot of money for just a motherboard though. it seems this mobo is settling at street prices of roughly 299 euros, making it an better value for its quality and functionality. Overall, the MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi motherboard is an fair choice for end-users seeking a quality product with good features, and performance without breaking the bank as it does offer a bit more value compared to the 500+ USD products out there.
