Magnificent Royal Design

Trident Z Royal is the latest addition to the Trident Z flagship family, featuring a crown jewel design. Meticulously crafted to display just the right amount of light refraction, the crystalline light bar scatters the RGB colors in a magnificent display of LED lighting. Complementing the patented high-class light bar design, polished aluminum heatspreaders of gold or silver colors cools the memory modules in the award-winning classic Trident Z tri-fin design. And to help maintain the pristine shine of the heatspreaders, each Trident Z Royal memory kit comes with a piece of microfiber cloth to let you wipe away fingerprints and dust.

Upgraded RGB Lighting

Inside the Trident Z Royal is the next generation RGB module designed with 8 individually controllable lighting zones, which allows for smoother color transitions and provides an even more stunning lighting experience for your build. To control this next generation RGB memory, a new set of lighting control software will be available for download from the official G.SKILL website.

Extreme High-Speed Specifications

Engineered on a newly designed custom PCB to accommodate the increased lighting zones, the Trident Z Royal is also built for high-speed overclocking specifications, ranging from 16GB to 128GB kit capacities and up to DDR4-4800MHz memory speeds.

You can find the QVL here. G.SKILL works very closely with the PC component industry, thus motherboard manufacturers often support 99% of the kits that G.SKILL releases, and if it isn't supported, you can bet that it will be in the next firmware update. Enough with the marketing stuff here, so we can proceed to the essence. Let’s see what we have under the hood.

First up is Thaiphoon Burner, which is a very good utility for checking the basic data on a RAM die. According to this program, the chips that are used here are the Samsung B-Die with 10 layers (and usually it's much better for stability at higher frequencies). Was that a surprise? Not really. Will it provide headroom for some overclocking? We’ll see on the following pages, but it surely can be an interesting experience.

Manufacturer:

G.Skill

Model:

F4-4000C17Q-32GTRG

Frequency:

DDR4-4000

Basic timings:

17-17-17-37

Capacity:

32 GB (8 GB x4)

Voltage:

1.35 V

PCB Type:

10 layers

Form Factor:

288-pin DIMM

Warranty:

Limited Lifetime

The chips are covered with a heatsink to ensure that the memory and PCB maintain a similar temperature, providing the best performance. You put the sticks in, enable XMP (which is, in fact, the industry standard and it’s hard to spot any RAM without this feature nowadays), reboot, and that’s it. Traditionally, we’ll kick off the review with some photo-shooting first, and then move on to the practical part (benchmark/games).
