When shopping for RAM, it's important to know what to look for. One example of a high-performing RAM kit is G.SKill's "Trident Z5" DDR5 memory kit. It comes packaged in a brand-colored cardboard box, with a cut-out showing one of the two grey memory bars. The bars are wrapped in clear plastic, and a label on the back of the box provides information about the kit's features. Two label cutouts on the box also validate this information. Once the box is opened, you'll find the two memory modules packaged in clear plastic casing. It's as simple as that, now you know what to look for when shopping for RAM, and you can move on to other considerations.
Here we have the DIMMs after unpacking. These are 32 GB (2x16GB) 6800 MHz DIMMs in a kit; G.SKILL markets the modules in matte black or metallic silver; we have the black set, which contrasts nicely with the black name strip. The Trident Z5 module design is reasonable, high-quality, and eye-catching, in my opinion. Module height is reasonable at roughly 45mm. The Trident Z5 RGB kit specs from G.SKILL are outstanding. This is a DDR5 kit with an XMP 3.0 frequency of 6800MHz, a dual-channel 2x16GB 32GB set using single-rank modules.
As you might have noticed from that sticker, this kit can manage latencies of CL34-45-45-108 at 1.40 Volts, and that fast latency for this type of memory (DDR5) is alright. For optimal stability, we recommend you stick to the manufacturer's suggested settings at default SPD or that preconfigured XMP profile. The set employs Hynix chips. Unfortunately, we can not provide specific IC model information because Thaiphoon Burner does not appear to enjoy our Z790 and DDR5 test setup. A thermal sensor is also included to monitor module temperatures in software.

We recommend a bare minimum of 8GB for most PCs, 16GB for gaming rigs, 32GB for those who use memory-intensive applications or perform memory-intensive tasks such as transcoding and content creation, and 64GB for those with specific workloads. However, with the advent of DDR5, the trend is shifting towards 32GB for high-end and enthusiast-class PCs. This specific RAM kit can currently be purchased for around $299, which is a significant decrease in price from its original release. While it may be cheaper elsewhere, it may be challenging to find in stock at this time. This kit features G.Skill logo and RGB lighting at the top and is XMP 3.0 (Extreme Memory Profile) compliant, so be sure to enable the profile in your motherboard's BIOS after updating to the latest firmware SBIOS update for your motherboard.

G.Skill has prepared very well for launching a new memory standard and has presented three DDR5 series: the Trident Z5 (5600-6400 MHz), the Trident Z5 RGB (the same range as the non-RGB’s), and the Ripjaws S5 (5200-5600 MHz). They all come in 32 GB kits (2 x 16 GB), and their frequency is higher than the base 4800 MHz. Today, we are checking the G.Skill TridentZ5 5600 MHz CL36 DDR5 kit.
