Destiny 2 for PC
P
C graphics performance/analysis review

We will look at Destiny 2 in a PC graphics performance and PC gamer way. We'll test the game on the PC platform relative towards graphics card performance with the latest AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers. Multiple graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked. We have a look at performance with the newest graphics cards and technologies.

November 24th, 2017 update - Our Destiny 2 article has been updated. Both AMD and Nvidia now offer a driver that shows massive performance gains in Destiny 2. While AMD's optimized 17.11.2 driver already was included with up to 30% performance increases, Nvidia did a similar thing with their 388.31 drivers. Nvidia also gains over 30% in performance. All graphics cards have been retested, the charts have been updated to reflect this.

Destiny 2 is an online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It is the sequel to 2014's Destiny and its subsequent expansions. Set in a "mythic science fiction" world, the game features a multiplayer "shared-world" environment with elements of role-playing games. Players assume the role of a Guardian, protectors of Earth's last safe city as they wield a power called Light to protect the Last City from different alien races. One of these races, the Cabal, led by their emperor, Dominus Ghaul, infiltrate the Last City and strips all Guardians of their Light. The player sets out on a journey to regain their Light and find a way to defeat Ghaul and his Red Legion army and take back the Last City. Like the original, activities in Destiny 2 are divided among player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game types. In addition to normal story missions, PvE features three-player "strikes" and six-player raids. A free roam patrol mode is also available for each planet and features public events as well as new activities not featured in the original. These new activities have an emphasis on exploration of the planets and interactions with non-player characters (NPCs) on the planets; the original Destiny only featured NPCs in social spaces. PvP features objective-based modes, as well as traditional deathmatch game modes. All PvP game modes are four-versus-four, a change from the previous installment, which featured six-versus-six, three-versus-three, and two-versus-two variants. Bungie has already announced two expansion packs for the game, which will further the story and add new content and missions. The first expansion, Curse of Osiris, will release in late 2017, while the second expansion is planned for release in spring 2018.

We'll test the game on the PC platform relative towards graphics card performance with the AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers. Multiple graphics cards are being tested and benchmarked with the latest cards such as the GeForce GTX 10 series included as well as the latest Radeon RX series 500 and Vega graphics cards. You are going to need a reasonably modern PC with at least a mainstream graphics card to run the game nicely. We test with the game based on the final release for PC / Windows from this week, all patched up combined with latest AMD Radeon Software Crimson ReLive and Nvidia drivers.

This article will cover benchmarks in the sense of average framerates, we'll look at all popular resolutions scaling from Full HD (1920x1080/1200), WQHD (2560x1440) and of course Ultra HD. UHDTV (2160p) is 3840 pixels wide by 2160 pixels tall (8.29 megapixels), which is four times as many pixels as 1920x1080 (2.07 megapixels).
