Crucial P5 Plus PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe review - Introduction

Crucial P5 PLUS| PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
Approaching 6500 MB/sec at 16 cents per GB

The last-gen Crucial P5 has proven to be popular because of its value and performance, and the P5 Plus appears to be aiming to occupy a similar niche. We take a look at the 1TB model. The storage unit is based on the very latest 176 Layer TLC NAND technology (Micron). Crucial has access to the best 176-Layer flash available as it is a subsidiary company from Micron and can sell it through retail channels at a more competitive price. They have made the decision to do exactly that with an in-house controller and NAND. This series provides high-speed performance in an attractive 6.5 GB/sec range at more affordable pricing than previous generations. Yep, we're at a wild SSD place right now in 2021, with performance figures that are all over the place mean absolutely nothing though however are indicative of overall performance. The new NVMe M.2 SSD has PCI-Express 4.0 (x4) connectivity, which is faster than last-gen models. The capacity lineup consists of three models with differing capacities: 500 GB, 1TB, and 2TB. According to Crucial, the 1TB P5 Plus is capable of peak read speeds of 6,600MB/s and write speeds of 5,000MB/s. In terms of speed, that's a touch behind the very fastest PCIe Gen 4 drives, but still, very fast. There is less information available about Crucial's new PCIe Gen 4 controller IC. Considering that it's Gen 3 predecessor was a six-core effort, it's possible that this will be the case again here. There is only one thing we know for certain: it has eight memory channels and can connect to a 1GB DDR4 cache on the 1TB hard disk. For the record, the 500GB model receives the same amount of cache as the 1TB model, while the 2TB device receives 2GB of cache.

3D TLC NAND also has random reading and writing capabilities of up to 630K~700K IOPS and PCI-Express 4.0 support for high-speed versions of the technology. SSDs of the highest potential level of performance (X4) When random access is used, the processing speed is extremely high. In addition to providing exceptional performance and long-term durability, the SSD is made with high-density 3D TLC NAND, which provides up to 600 TB Written for the tested 1TB model, and it has a five-year warranty (whichever one comes first).

Known for its great performance and often value, the Crucial series SSD is an M.2 NVMe SSD that supports the PCI-Express 4.0 interface, bringing the P5 PLUS series up to date.  A non-volatile memory express (NVMe 1.4) capable M.2 form factor SSD, it is packed with unique Vertically stacked TLC written (3-bits per cell) NAND. In today's world, the performance numbers provided by a quality SATA3 SSD are still outstanding. However, with the more specialized NVMe SSDs, you can now have 10-fold performance, resulting in some impressive numbers across the board. With an M.2 2280 form factor of 8cm, the item will be compatible with the vast majority of ATX motherboards that support M.2. In any case, are you interested in learning more about the fundamental performance of this product? Well, it's all listed; on to the next pages and the remainder of the review.
