So for today's review we have an engineering sample Core i7-4960X processor in our hands. As you can see these are vanilla picked, non retails versions. Once you have one in your hand you realize these are actually heavy.

The Core i7-4960X clocks in at a baseclock of 3.6 GHz, yet can turbo towards 4.0 GHz depending on load levels versus active threads, this six core processor can be hyper threaded towards 12 threads.

It's quite a powerful puppy. Expect the final sales price to be just as powerful at roughly 1000 USD per processor. But let's have a look at an X79 motherboard. We'll use the MSI X79A GD65.
