CoolIT ALC VANTAGE review - Performance modes tested | preferences HD video

Performance modes and a preferences HD video

The CoolIT ALC Vantage has three selectable performance modes that affect fan and pump RPM. The three modes are quiet, performance and extreme. In the Extreme mode the product will set RPM on both at roughly 2000~2100 RPM. DBA levels at that stage will go up a little, but will still be extremely acceptable.

To show the effect of the three performance modes we took the PC once more, overclocked the Core i5 750 @ 3.8 GHz with 1.4 volts on the CPU and tested the idle and load temperatures once again.

Have a peek at what the selectable performance modes do in terms of cooling:

So it definitely matters, Silent mode is definitely silent .. you can not hear the unit. The Core i5 750 @ 3.8 GHz with 1.4 volts on the CPU under load peaks to roughly 70 degrees C. Arguably that's not bad performance at all for a 2.67 GHz processor. At performance mode you can faintly hear the fan, but that does shave off another 5 degrees C.

In Extreme mode the product becomes slightly noticeable in terms of noise, just like you can hear a regular fan, but it does shave off the overall temperature to 63 Degrees C.

CoolIT ALC Vantage configuration VIDEO

In the modern day and age where you need to explain the somewhat more intricate functions, why not use video. Below you can find a small video we recorded showing the basic features of preferences at the LCD menu.

What we like very much is the easy to navigate though menu, the performance preferences and obviously, the backlight coloring is just fantastic to match your preference toward your PC color scheme. This is 1080P recording, feel free to select high-definition playback quality of course.

This is the menu structure BTW:

Default = DISPLAY STATS

Select in MENU

  • Settings
    • Temp (C/F)
    • mode: Quiet / Performance / Extreme
    • Load setup defaults
    • return
  • Display
    • LED color
    • Pulse (color fade in/out)
    • Angle (LCD screen view point)
  • About
  • Exit

What's also a fun fact is that you can select colors right, in that setting there is also a TEMP mode, IF you temperature is cool, the LCD will color GREEN .. if it gets too hot ... it will fade to RED.

CoolIT ALC ECO review
A short while ago CoolIT introduced their ALC ECO. The ALC series are single self contained water-cooling based unit, that are very easy to install. They looks nice and performs adequately as well. It almost sounds too good to be true at 75 USD right ? Well, CoolIT certainly will make an impression with the ECO as this article will show you.
