More Haswell news today. ‘Haswell’ is the name of Intel’s next-generation processors as you guys know by now. Last week we already we reported some of the key details of Intel’s Haswell and Broadwell platforms, but perhaps the most enthralling part of the report was that it was scheduled to launch in April 2013. A new documents located by VR-Zone, shows that Intel is planning to delay the launch of its Haswell processors from April 2013 to May and June 2013.

Intel Haswell to Include Integrated Voltage Regulator

Intel Corp.’s next-generation code-named Haswell microprocessors will feature a secret weapon: integrated voltage regulator module (VRM). The latter will allow to improve granularity of power supply to central processing units and thus further cut power consumption without compromising performance. At present, voltage regulator modules and various power ICs are located on mainboards. In the recent years, to better regulate voltages of different blocks within central processing units, multi-phase CPU power supply circuitries were implemented.

It is actually based on Intel NM70 chipset, the board is equipped with a 1.1GHz Intel Celeron 847 dual-core processor, two DDR3 DIMM memory slots (up to 16GB RAM), one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 2.0 x1 slot and two PCI slots. Sega has released a new Aliens: Colonial Marines trailer detailing the game's story. Set after the events of the third movie, Aliens: Colonial Marines focuses on a search and rescue team investigating a distress call sent by the U.S.S. Sulaco and that subsequently leads them to the xenomorph-infested planet, LV-426. Aliens: Colonial Marines is scheduled for release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on 12 February, 2013. .

Chipmaker Marvell Fined $1.169 billion in patent case

You know them from their chips, Marvell network controller and SSD controllers. Well, Marvell lost a lawsuit to a University over a patent. A Pittsburgh federal jury on Wednesday awarded Carnegie Mellon University one of the largest patent damage awards in the country in a lawsuit over a Bermuda-based chip manufacturer‘s use of the university‘s technology. But the $1.169 billion verdict marks the halfway point in a lengthy litigation battle, two lawyers said.

An Asian website came across data that reveals the building blocks of Intel's Haswell and Broadwell processor lineups. As was the case with Intel's last generations, Haswell and Broadwell will basically consist of two physical dies; the 1M die with two cores and 4MB L3 cache, and the 2M die with four cores and 8MB L3 cache.

ASUS planning $149 7-inch tablet

 ASUS is working on a 7" tablet with a price of $149. Just like the Acer tablet, the model from ASUS will arrive in Q1 2013 and will be primarily intended for emerging markets. Asustek's new 7-inch tablet will focus on emerging markets including India and China, while Lenovo and Samsung Electronics are also preparing products with similar specifications and price levels, but will first observe Acer and Asustek's competition before releasing their products.

A hacker called Peter Winter-Smith discovered a security hole in NVIDIA's display driver service that allows local and remote users (Windows firewall/file sharing permitting) to gain administrator privileges in Windows via a stack buffer overflow.

AMD FX-8300 95W TDP CPU released this week

AMD plans to release a FX-8300 processor with a TDP of 95W on December 29. This compares to 125W for the faster FX-8350. The FX-8300 is said to have the same 4.2GHz Turbo speed as the FX-8350, but with a lower base clock speed of 3.3GHz.
