OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 review

Memory (DDR4/DDR5) and Storage (SSD/NVMe) 369 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

We'll be testing an engineering sample of that RevoDrive 3 X2 today. Let me just throw some numbers at you to get that tickly in your belly ; 1500 MB/s maximum read performance, or what about 1250 MB/s maximum write performance ? No that still didn't do it for you ... well what about 200.000 IOPS (4K writes) ? Yeah that is where we have arrived in the year 2011. It's insanely fast, it will be insanely expensive but it is most definitely insanely sexy.

Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD review

Memory (DDR4/DDR5) and Storage (SSD/NVMe) 369 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Corsair added two new SATA 3 (SATA 3 6Gs) SSDs to their Force lineup, the Force 3 and Force 3 GT, with the 3 as indicator for SATA 3. The difference in-between the two products is to be found in its NAND flash memory, the GT will be a notch faster in throughput as it makes use of synchronous NAND flash memory, the regular 3 models will run one gear slower, yet still incredibly fast thanks to slightly cheaper asynchronous NAND flash memory. Both drives come with that already famous SandForce SF-2281 controller to deliver at up to 550 MBps read and 510 MBps write speeds.

Super Talent Announces TeraDrive PT3 SSD

Storage 785 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced their next generation SSD, the TeraDrive PT3.

Featuring the SandForce 2200 processor, SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and Double Data Rate, ONFiTM flash, the new TeraDrive PT3 offers a significant leap in performance over drives offered just a few months ago. The union of these 3 new technologies has forever changed the storage landscape. Right out of the gate, this new generation SSD stretches well within the new found bandwidth promised by the SATA 3.0 bus and breaks the 500MB/s barrier in both Read and Write scores. The comparisons between SSDs and HDDs just became a little harder to justify.

The only SSD processor to compress data before writing, SandForce's unique set of technologies enables the new TeraDrive PT3 to offer enhanced performance, flash durability and data integrity. Add to that the introduction of ONFi, double data rate flash, and the SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and we have one of the largest incremental leaps in performance that the storage market has ever seen.

"To reach this level of performance, just a few months ago, required two SSDs in a RAID array. Now a new generation NAND flash and the SATA 3.0 interface have clearly moved the performance bottleneck elsewhere", Peter Carcione, SuperTalent Director of Product Marketing.

Available in capacities 60, 120, 240 and 480GB, the TeraDrive PT3 begins shipping today.

AMD Bulldozer Engineering Sample CPU Overclocked to 4.63GHz

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

It's all silent regarding AMD Bulldozer FX but but check this leak out, an FX-Series processor with an impressive 4.63GHz overclock.

The CPU that managed to achieve this feat seems to be an engineering sample of the FX-8130P and required about 1.5V in order to be stable enough to run the Super Pi benchmark at the above mentioned frequency.

The FX-8130P is supposed to be AMD's fastest desktop Bulldozer processor as it features eight processing core that are run at a base frequency of 3.8GHz. Based on the load placed on its cores, the chip can increase its frequency up to 4.2GHz thanks to AMD's Turbo Core 2.0 technology.

In addition to the four Bulldozer modules, the FX-8130P also includes 8MB of Level 2 cache memory and 8MB of L3 cache as well as an integrated dual-channel memory controller that supports DDR3-1866 modules.

NVIDIA and VIA also left BAPCo

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Guru3D.com ImageNot only AMD but also VIA and NVIDIA left BAPCo due to disagreements over the scoring system of SYSmark 2012 reports xbitlabs.. That pretty much it for Bapco as it will drive a knife straight through their heart, after today nobody can ever use their software anoy longer on future generation CPUs and APUs:

Nvidia Corp. and Via Technologies confirmed on Thursday that they had quit BAPCo (Business Applications Performance Corp.) due to disagreements over the scoring system of SYSmark2012 which does not take graphics card's role into account while measuring performance in applications that are considered by many as outdated.

"We have tendered our resignation to BAPCo. We strongly believe that the benchmarking applications tests developed for SYSmark 2012 and EEcoMark 2.0 do not accurately reflect real world PC usage scenarios and workloads and therefore feel we can no longer remain as a member of the organization," said Richard Brown, a vice president at Via Technologies.

Advanced Micro Devices on Tuesday officially said that it would not endorse SYSmark 2012 benchmark and will also quit BAPCo (Business Applications Performance Corp.) that developers to PC performance measurement software.

The main concern of AMD, Nvidia and Via is that BAPCo SYSmark 2012 does not utilize graphics processing units (GPUs) for general purpose computing tasks (GPGPU) and solely relies on performance of central processing units (CPUs). According to AMD, such approach is misleading as many applications nowadays take huge advantage of GPGPU technologies, including Adobe Flash 10.2 (SYSmark 2012 uses 10.1), Microsoft Office 11 (SM2012 uses Office 10), Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 (SM2012 uses IE8), Microsoft Movie Maker and many others. Besides, AMD accuses BAPCo of implementing unrepresentative workloads into the benchmark in order to favour AMD's competitor Intel.

"We have resigned [from BAPCo]," said Irina Shekhovtsova, a senior spokesperson for Nvidia.

"We hope that the industry can adopt a much more open and transparent process for developing fair and objective benchmarks that accurately measure real-world PC performance and are committed to working with companies that share our vision," added Mr. Brown.
