Intel New X58 Extreme Series Desktop Boards

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Intel's Desktop Board division is readying two new high-end socket LGA1366 motherboards under its Extreme Series line,as TechPowerup reported.

"The company's last high-end LGA1366 motherboard, the DX58SO "SmackOver", was released more than 25 months ago in November 2008, when the first Intel Core i7 processors came to be. The new motherboards are up to date in terms of features. They use the latest Rev. 13 X58 northbridge, all solid-state capacitors, support the latest LGA1366 processors out of the box, and feature USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s support. The two motherboards consist of DX58SO2 "SmackOver II", and its "lite" variant, the DX58OG.

The DX58SO2 uses digital PWM CPU power circuit, a sporty blue heatsink cluster over the northbridge, VRM area, and southbridge, with heat spread between the northbridge and VRM using a heat-pipe. It features six internal SATA 3 Gb/s, two internal SATA 6 Gb/s, and two eSATA 3 Gb/s ports, two USB 3.0 ports, 8-channel HD audio, and expansion slots that include three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (x16/x16/NC or x16/x8/x8), two PCI-E x1, and one PCI.

The DX58OG uses the same exaxt PCB as the DX58SO, except that a lot of features are downscaled. The CPU VRM has fewer phases, although USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s ports are unaffected, there are no eSATA ports, and a 6-channel HD audio CODEC instead of 8-channel, and the third PCI-Express x16 slot is reduced to x1. Both boards feature certain new features that Intel is introducing with its latest Extreme Series boards, namely, BIOS Vault Technology that helps recover BIOS, a Back-to-BIOS button, and a more efficient inter-phase load balancing mechanism. Fractal Design Define Mini Micro-ATX chassis

HTPC 228 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Fractal Design announced the Define Mini, the little brother of the Define R2/R3 cases. This new Micro-ATX case focuses on low noise, it's pre-fitted with noise absorbing material and features a ModuVent design that enables the user to choose between silence or optimal airflow. The Define Mini has room for two 5.25" devices, up to six 3.5" HDDs and four expansion cards (which can be up to 400mm long when the upper HDD cage is removed). Cooling is provided by a 120mm front and 120mm exhaust fan, but extra cooling can be provided by up to four additional fans. The speed of up to three fans can be controlled via an included fan controller and the front panel has USB 3.0 support. The case measures 210mm x 395mm x 490mm and weighs 9.5kg.

As the name implies, Define Mini is the smaller sibling of the acclaimed and award winning Define R2/R3 case. Being a Micro ATX version of Define R2/R3, it offers a number of interesting functions with a very stylish appearance. It's a case focused on low noise level, without neglecting other important features such as cooling, expandability and ease of use. The Define Mini excels in including a lot of features in a small size!

Key features
* Stunning front panel design
* Patent pending ModuVent

ASUS TUF Sabertooth P67 enters the Guru3D lab

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

In preparation for what's coming on the Sandy bridge processor front we received a good number of P67 motherboards. The one that you guys look out for the most just entered the trenches of Guru3D.

Meet the TUF Sabertooth P67 ASUS as designed a plastic shroud for what they call aerodynamics. The shield will be called 'Tactical Jacket'. The first photo's we showed you where kind of crappy, so here's a couple of good quality photo's of this amazing looking motherboard, taken in our photo-studio.

Enjoy the sneak peek ...

Corsair Vengeance 12GB DDR3 Memory Kit review

Review 567 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Today we'll have a look at Corsair's Vengeance 12GB PC3-12800 1600Mhz DDR3 DIMM Memory Kit, it will be exceptionally hard to show you any performance difference in-between 6GB and 12GB, but any transcoding, photoshopping, productivity enthusiast with at little common sense will conclude with us, this kit is going to be one heck of a deal.

Go check out the Guru3D review right here.

Foxconn Quantum Force P67 Motherboard

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Foxconnis ready with its first high-end socket LGA1155 motherboard based on the Intel P67 Express chipset, supporting upcoming "Sandy Bridge" processors as TPU reports today.

"The LGA1155 socket is powered by a 14-phase digital PWM circuit using independent single-phase PWM inductors made by CPL, and memory using a 2-phase VRM. Expansion slots include two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x8/x8 with both populated), three PCI-E x1, and one PCI. Both ATI CrossFireX and NVIDIA SLI are sure to be supported. Storage connectivity includes two internal SATA 6 Gb/s, four internal SATA 3 Gb/s, two eSATA 3 Gb/s, and one ATA connector supporting up to two IDE devices.

External connectivity includes 8+2 channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF connectors, two USB 3.0 ports, a number of USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, and two gigabit Ethernet connections. The Quantum Force P67 is loaded with overclocker-friendly features. There is a set of onboard overclocking control buttons, diagnostic LED display, rear-panel CMOS reset button, redundant BIOS in separate EEPROM chips, and high-precision voltage control thanks to the Volterra PWM IC. Foxconn's Quantum Force P67 could be part of the first wave of motherboards that will be released along with Intel's socket LGA1155 CPUs in early 2011."

MSI Big Bang Marshal mobo Pictured

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Engadget snagged a picture of MSI's Big Bang Marshal, a forthcoming XL-ATX motherboard that features eight PCI Express x16 slots, eight USB 3.0 ports and three BIOS chips! The motherboard is expected in Q1 2011 but the site notes the specifications are still subject to change, perhaps the final edition will have room for more DIMMs.

This XL-ATX board packs a total of eight PCI Express lanes (though it only has the bandwidth to simultaneously feed four x16s or eight x8s -- relevant if you're crazy enough to think about using more than four GPUs), three separate BIOS chips, extra 8-pin and 6-pin 12V power intakes, and a thoroughly excessive set of power regulation components. The less extremely minded among you will appreciate having a full array of eight USB 3.0 ports on the back, though we can't get over the measly four DIMM slots on offer.

MSI might include BigFoot NIC on mobo's

Network 111 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

It's been discussed ever since its release, we say latency is an issue inbetween your computer and the final server, thus the internet is your slow factor. MSI is likely to announce a partnership with Bigfoot Networks at CES as a press-release hints to this, yes from the Killer NIC card, a dedicated gaming NIC. The obvious next step is to integrate it into mainboards.

Well check out this press-release:
