Apple Acknowledges iPhone 4 Reception Issues

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Yikes, Apple released a response to the now officially-acknowledged iPhone 4 antenna reception problems:

Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

Meanwhile we can also confirm that iOS 4 already hacked - PwnageTool 4.01 was Released. With PwnageTool 4.01 certain devices are not supported this is because they are not supported in iOS 4.0 or they are not supported by our software. But they're working on ways to get past these restrictions. Info here.

MSI R5670 Cyclone 1G review

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

MSI R5670 Cyclone 1G gets tested

Today a review on what is probably the most overclockable card (on air) in the world.

We test the MSI R5670 Cyclone 1G. This is a sub 100 USD graphics card that certainly is not a card with a lot of muscle, but for low-level and not too demanding gaming, it can suffice. MSI decided to redesign the board a little bit, slapped a Cyclone cooler on the GPU, ditched their high-end 'military class' components on it, equipped it with some faster memory and bam... you've got yourself a product that can be tweaked into the stratosphere.

1GHz ?! Not an issue my dear Watson. Here's the ling to this Guru3D article.

SD memory cards to get performance indication symbols

Memory 234 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Not a bad idea really. The SD Association announced new high-speed performance symbols for SDXC and SDHC memory cards:
The SD Association announced today two new high-speed performance symbols for the fastest SDXC and SDHC devices and memory cards. The first symbol identifies products with bus-interface speeds up to 104 Megabytes per second for greater device performance. The second symbol identifies SD memory cards and products with a performance option allowing real-time video recording.

The sheer variety of high-performing, feature-rich devices has dictated the need for a wide variety of SD memory card speeds and capacities to maximize device performance and meet consumer expectations. With more than 2.5 billion SD memory cards in the market today, the new high-speed performance capabilities will co-exist with earlier SD memory cards still used by consumers, as those cards are still interoperable with the newest host devices. New SD memory cards and devices bearing the following new performance symbols may now begin entering the marketplace:

* The new Ultra High Speed (UHS) symbol can be found exclusively on SDXC and SDHC products. SDXC or SDHC products with the UHS-I symbol offer the fastest bus-interface speeds available today, capable of supporting data transfer speeds up to 104 Megabytes per second. UHS-I quadruples the existing maximum possible speed of 25 Megabytes per second. UHS bus interfaces are backwards compatible. SDXC UHS-I and SDHC UHS-I memory cards achieve greatest performance when paired with a UHS-I device and allow consumers to record HD resolution videos, plus perform other simultaneous recording functions.

* The new UHS Speed Class symbol can be found exclusively on SDXC UHS-I and SDHC UHS-I products. UHS Speed Class 1 designates SD memory cards and products with a performance option designed to support real-time video recording. This symbol will be found on SDXC UHS-I or SDHC UHS-I memory cards. Consumers can realize the full potential of recording real-time broadcasts and capturing videos using a digital video camera by pairing their devices with UHS Speed Class 1 memory cards.

* The existing Speed Class symbols for non-UHS SD, SDHC and SDXC products are Class 2, Class 4, Class 6 and Class 10. They refer to the minimum write speed performance of the memory card. The symbols may be found on memory cards and devices, including video and digital cameras.

For greatest performance, users should pair their devices with the corresponding SD memory card. The Association has created two videos to show best uses for the variety of SD memory cards available today; to view, visit www.sdcard.org/videos. The Association also offers an online resource, www.sdcard.org/cardchoice, for users to explore the variety of SD memory cards types for new and existing devices.

"The world-leading SD memory card standard has increased the value, usefulness and longevity of consumer electronic products by allowing consumers to easily upgrade their devices to meet their needs and budgets," said Paul Ritchie, executive director of the SD Association. "The new high-speed symbols are designed to make it easier for consumers to take advantage of the massive storage and incredible speeds offered in SDXC and SDHC products."

HTML 5 Speed Test: IE9 vs. Chrome 6

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

DownloadSquad put together a video showing hardware accelerated canvas rendering on IE9 and Chrome 6. HTML 5 will enable web designers to use cleaner, neater code, we can remove most div tags and replace them with semantic HTML 5 elements.  As websites adopt the new HTML 5 elements we will see far greater consistency in terms of the HTML used to code a web page on one site compared to another.  This will make it far easier for web designers and web developers to immediately grasp how a web page is structured even if they are brand new to it.

BioWare: The PC is 'made for gaming'

Games 1603 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Bioware has told CVG that the PC is 'made for gaming' - and that there is 'no question' over whether it will continue to lead development of its games on the format.

Bioware designer and writing director Daniel Erickson said that the PC's interface was "less restrictive" than console equivalents.

"Every two or three years we hear the announcement of fantasy being dead, PC gaming being dead and RPGs being dead," he said. "And yet, all of the biggest games that ever come out - that set the records - are nearly always PC games, and a lot of them are fantasy games.

"The biggest game in the world is a fantasy, PC, RPG MMO. We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the interface is made for games. The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console].

AMD Fusion to consume just only 9W TDP

Processor 721 Published by Panagiotis Georgiadis 0

AMD Fusion is a new approach to processor design and software development, delivering powerful CPU and GPU capabilities for HD, 3D and data-intensive workloads in a single-die processor called an APU. APUs combine high-performance serial and parallel processing cores with other special-purpose hardware accelerators, enabling breakthroughs in visual computing, security, performance-per-watt and device form factor. It is expected by developers to release appropriate optimized software drivers to utilize this AMD Fusion APU technology.

So far, Advanced Micro Devices is working on next-generation mobile chip architecture code-named Ontario. This architecture will be used in chips manufactured using the 40-nm process embedded in integrated graphics processing unit and all iterations should use DDR3 memory system technology. This chip aims either at graphics or chipsets but there is no any reference for CPU implementation so far.

The latest information we manage to gather indicates an amazing low power consumption profile decreased to just only 9W TDP (Thermal Design Power) with graphics enabled. Apparently, this implies that Ontario will possibly target at Intel
