GoPro has finally unveiled its next generation of HERO devices, the HERO4s. While GoPro tends to offer multiple cameras under the HERO name, the flagship Black model is perhaps the most interesting, always offering the most cutting edge technology of the bunch. In this iteration, the HERO4 Black takes HD video recording and bumps up the resolution to 4K.

But, that's not all the improvements that the HERO4 Black offers. The new HERO4s will offer two times the processing power of its predecessors. This will give the new HERO4 Black the capability to record 4K at 30fps, 2.7K video at 50fps, and 1080p at 120fps. These settings will allow video capture that will virtually eliminate the rolling shutter effect and allow for slow motion video effects. The HERO4 Black will also have improved audio performance by capturing high fidelity audio that will have two times the dynamic range of previous models.

Unfortunately, the HERO4 Silver will not have the ability to record 4K video, but will instead offer video capture at 2.7K video at 30fps, 1080p video at 60fps and 720p video at 120fps. Interestingly, the Silver edition will come standard with an LCD touchscreen. Although GoPro has been at the forefront of the rugged camera genre for quite some time, it looks like others might be trying to compete with the company in the near future. But, with GoPro's latest offering, the competition will be fierce. The HERO4 Black will be priced at $499 USD and the HERO4 Silver will be a hundred dollars less at $399 USD. The HERO4s will be available starting October 5th, 2014.
