Overclocking the Core i7 4770K on ASUS Z97 Deluxe

Overclocking the Core i7 4770K on the ASUS Z97 Deluxe

We have two boards to test and overclock in this article. For the Z97 Deluxe we could apply the very same settings as the Z97-A and achieve the same results. This round however we aim for 4900 MHz (and I know my 4770K CPU has a really hard time passing 4800 Mhz). So it became somewhat of a mission.

Below an overview of our BIOS overclock settings:

Now basically we again enabled the XMP profile for memory running at 2133 MHz, started a CPU multiplier of 49. Then the system would fail booting into Windows. So we need more voltage as the auto setting is not sufficient any longer. We ended up at a whopping 1.375 Volts on the processor, which really is a lot and that will result into much more processor heat for the cooler.

Now, 4900 MHz was stable whatsoever. The heat issues that come with Haswell and higher voltages are a massive problem. Even at these temps all worked fine, though I cannot recommend this OC for a long term due to the registered package temperature. But lets look at performance once overclocked though.

Again I like to show you a handful of results taken with the system overclocked at a whopping 4900 MHz. Again the cooler used was a Corsair H110 Liquid Cooling Kit.
