are they trying to confuse people 2.0 hdmi cables and 2.1 hdmi cables have diffrent bandwidths, then again they dont call 2.0 hdmi cable 2.0 cables they call the highspeed and 2.1 ultra highspeed?
Who is actual brain child behind this so we know who to blame when people are confused. i mean I already confused with cables, they should just call them 2.0 and 2.1 hdmi cables to match what actual ports are called so we get correct cable with correct bandwdith
Unless it all lie and cable dont matter, but I think we all know the cable actual does matter when comes to bandwidth.

why isnt this illegal? isnt the whole point of a standard to provide clarity of what is and isnt?
maybe a consumer group should sue the crap out of that USB committee along with whatever bunch of slimy ducks set the HDMI rules
if we allow this to continue, soon enough we will have 4gb & 32gb GPUs simply named as "high capacity" and "low capacity"

I'm leaning in the direction this was a mistake. Or if true, it wont last long. Opens up too many legal ramifications, esp for products sold in EU and US. Manufacturers wanting to sell in these regions will be prevented from labeling 2.0 as 2.1, since its basically false and misleading info for consumers.

Good we have Displayport, heh?

It's good for marketing tho. Now they can sell the old 2.0 as "HDMI 2.1" and the real 2.1 "high speed HDMI 2.1" for more profit without inventing anything. Great.

Can't wait to see all the returned orders that retailers will get when people start buying HDMI 2.0 cables that are labelled as HDMI 2.1
All those black screens and 'signal not supported' messages when people try to run PS5/XboxSX/PC @ 4K 120hz with HDR and VRR. What a s*** show...

Hold on aren't HDMI 2.1 copper cables just 2.0 cables 2 meters or less, the copper stuff can't carry 48Gbps over 2 meters reliably. I know there are now pricey fiber optical cables that can do greater distance. And aren't the 8K greater then 60Hz TVs only able to push their signal over 3 feet or less on copper cables?
I mean HDMI is kind of crap and should have been dumped long ago.
