1080p for a console is fine sitting several feet away even on a 50" tv. 720p sux though as anything non native on an LCD tv looks awful unless. the native res is an integer multiple, e. g. 1080p on a 4k tv.
PC is a different beast though as youre so close to it, i use 3440x1400p and i dont see any need currently to go above that considering the gpu hit on performance.
4k would be good on a projector though 🙂

Yes many people still play at 1080p, but are we talking about a consoleto use for 1-2 years or are we talking for something that can last until the next generation ??

ITT people forget that 4K gaming is garbage for the vast majority of rigs and even these upcoming consoles.

At first i thought "cool, a Xbox to compete against the Switch" and i was curious and interested and then i read the rest of the article...

I have friends that never got into PC and stick to their Xbox. I would consider the cheaper Xbox if I wanted to game with them occasionally while still having my PC as my main squeeze. I think my main question is how will game devs deal with the disparity? Will it be a straight res drop, or will there be graphical effects taken away or severely dumbed down? I don't know how many devs will want to put the work in to optimize their games for different horsepower machines every time they have a new release. I mean, I guess they already do that for PC releases, but it's one more extra thing to worry about. Sloppy ports may become a thing on the same console generation.

basically it just like "graphic-settings"(preset)
