I can't freakin believe AMD's 295x2 still beats it, even in SLI!!! I mean it's an old architecture, and the fact that it's clocked lower adds more salt to the wound :giggle2:
...You do realize trying to say "the fact that it's clocked lower adds more salt to the wound" makes no logical sense right? are you stuck in the 90's when different architectures even remotely had the same clock per clock performance? and with GPU's, there's SOOO many other things then clock that come into factor? and my reply back to you has nothing to do with nvidia vs amd etc., simply with the fact that it amazes me people still try compare hardware from arbitrary numbers that mean nothing Lastly, you stated at first "I can't freakin believe AMD's 295x2 still beats it"...eh? What do you mean you can't believe it? Where in the world would you seem to get the idea that AMD's previous generations top of the line 2x card could get beaten by a competitors single current generation? I mean, we all would love that, sure, no denying that, but to expect it? When has that ever happened? once? MAYBE twice? Your post is full of illogical nonsense that i can only assume you are a troll.

well thats a typical amd closet nerd in a nutshell I suppose, they don't get better than that 🤓 (even though he says he has a dedicated gk from nvidia, I bet he has about 2 another computers full of amd hardware, but he hides it:evilgrin:)

I'm tired of rumors. Can we get confirmed benchmark results now?

Now why would you want that? Grab some popcorn and read the speculations and comments 😀

Looks interesting. Because I think the drivers are the first version, and probably will improve, and with custom PCBs and hopefully, good overclocking like the 750Ti, the new GPUs will surely show some performance gain above the 780(Ti). And, to be honest, I'm not surprised to see the 980 non-Ti compare to the 780Ti. But, after all, those are unconfirmed, inofficial benchmarks at best. I still don't give much credit to it, we'll see how they perform when the first true models are benchmarked and reviewed.

980M looks incredible if it's true Biggest leap in mobile GPU performance ever?

The GTX 980 would need to be around 20-25% faster than my GTX 780 to justify me upgrading. If the card is only as fast or slightly slower than the GTX 780 Ti then I'll give it a miss and wait for a faster card.

Well, IF we consider those benchmarks true and valid, you have it there. Roughly 23% gain from 780 to 980, with fresh drivers. Given tuning of drivers and games, you could see 25% gains, I suppose. That still is with 1080p though, as I still want to see how those 256-bit interfaces match up at 1440p or even higher resolution. 🙂

Looking at the graph you'd think the 970/980 are in fact the 780/780Ti.

If it's 25% faster than my 290 I'll probably get one. Not for 600 bucks though.

Lol, that 980m is as fast as a desktop 780 and 290X or even a bit faster. Is that for real? Then why the hell do we still need those huge borads for the desktop cards if that much power fits into a mxm slot card?

Nope - the 980m scores 9364 and the R9 290 scores 9866, according to the diagram. The SLI 980m scores lower then CF 290, but higher than single 780 Ti/970/980/R9 290x. Now the other thing is we don't know what processors were they using to test the desktop cards(excluding the GTX 9xx).

oh, dang I was just looking at the notebook check chart knowing that the 980m is almost as fast as the 780m sli. But anyway very similar results with the desktop 290 that is still HUGE for a mobile card. I guess the time when there wont be dsktop/mobile graphics chips is now closer than ever but a single one for both. Especially with the die shrink

Ye, i said in another thread they might aswell have called it the GTX 785. It's just a boosted 700 Series. And i doubt drivers will make it 15% faster. It's gonna be Pascal for me.

I mean Maxwell is essentially a slightly refined more power efficient Kepler. And we knew for a while now that Nvidia wasn't transitioning to a new process. So what exactly did people expect here?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/198/198862.jpg
Slightly faster, lower power cons. more Vram, if price is right these would be nice cards to consider. I'm hopping AMD will reduce 290's prices even more so these would be win-win for everyone.
data/avatar/default/avatar07.webp
I've seen nothing in all the rumours (8xx/9xx) & actual 780/780Ti benchmarks to make me upgrade my heavily factory OC GTX 770 4GB (1267MHz / 7.2Gbps) - it runs all titles without issues @ 1080p

Overclockers UK have just reduced their 290 prices.:)

Well, it's actually written on those screenshots. With the screenshots from Firestrike it's noted on top (Intel 3770K with 980, 4940MX wit hthe 980M), and with the comparisons it states on the bottom (3770K and 3450 with the 980; 3770K and 4130 with the 970; as well as 4940MX with the 980M and 4790S, 4940MX and 4930MX with the 970M) 😉

This.

I think people are forgetting this point, especially since its still on 28nm as opposed to the original planned shrink due to TSMC. What we ultimately may see is something like the 400->500 (and further back G80->G92) series optimization and power efficiency improvements, which should mean last gen top performance for mid range cost and something like 10-25% power savings at the same performance if we base it on the 750Ti.
