The era of HDD's is coming to an end. Seagate should be working on 8TB SSD's now.

So long as archiving is necessary there will be HDDs until a new technology comes around. 10 years from now there will still be HDDs unless the cost to produce cheap quality solid state disks plummets faster than predicted... and something is done to improve its quality because no one in the right mind would use a cheap SSD for long term archiving with the level of reliability they have now.
