Why go noob (evo), when you can go PRO ? 😀
I bought 840 and 850 Pro primarily because of 10 years warranty.

Same here. But then I learn about some other company (was it crucial... or sandisk?) and their semi-pro/enthusiast line of products that also carries 10 years of warranty but without that stupid 150 TB limit I know... I know... 150TB does not matter yadayada. Well if I had bought it for peace of mind, then obviously it does matter :bang:

It's the principle of the matter.

So they 850 EVO isn't effected by this at all? I bought an 840 EVO (my first ever SSD) a few months ago. I haven't really noticed any issues yet but I was thinking about getting a 2nd SSD so I can ditch my old mechanical drive. I could set the 850 EVO as my main drive then just keep the 840 for storage if so.

This is really starting to get annoying. I don't want to worry about my SSD's performance every three weeks... I wonder why nobody sues Samsung over this, kind of common practice these days...

850 Evo is not affected so far. It's still a TLC drive, but its architecture is different from the 840 Evo. If I had to place a bet, I'd say that the 850 Evo won't have the same problems.

Just like cars, you have warranty for XY years or XY mileage, whichever comes first. It doesn't really concern me, because those SSDs will be obsolete in 3-4 years anyway, and i will replace them. Well maybe i keep them for SSD caching, or RAID them for swap and temp, or some other weird stuff. Btw after 11 months the 840 has 1.96TB writen, so i gues it will do just fine 🙂 http://techreport.com/review/27062/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-only-two-remain-after-1-5pb/4

Dafuk my HD Tach looks terrible again after a few months after the fix. They should upgrade every 840 evo owner to an 850 evo. Will think twice about buying Samsung again.

Sorry guys, I'm a little confused what I should be looking for. I used the program mentioned (directly after a restart and with real time scanning turned off) and got a result of 'Average Data Read Speed: 179MB'... Am I correct in thinking that while that isn't the end of the world, I am indeed affected by the issue?

Certainly. But only if the 850 Evo won't develop similar problems. I won't buy any budget class SSDs from them I guess, I'm already upset because I got two 840 Evos before this came out.

Yes, I think you're definitely affected! You've probably got a SATA 2 connection have you based on the age of your system? Even so, with SATA 2 I think you can expect the high 200's not the high 100's that you've seen. You can use a program called DiskFresh to rewrite all the data on your drive to bring it back up to full speed.

redacted.

My Sata 2 gives 197 MB/s - about the same.

Ah, indeed you are correct. I have an identical EVO in my ASUS i5 laptop so I'll give that a run and see what happens. I'll have a look at the DiskFresh too... so thanks.
