Tbh 8gb shouldn't have been enough for a long time already. You can use pleb 1k textures if you like, im going 8k baby !
why would you use an 8k texture ...for a mug ...or a chewgum pack etc ? also if they use 8k textures on everything .... i have serious doubt even 16gb cards would cut it ....

JFC, that's way too expensive. 🙁 For that domain, HDDs have still great years ahead of them.

16gb wont cut it, and it's time we move forward, and get proper high definition graphics, and not just the same crap graphics and textures they get on consoles...

so about 98% of the market's gpus of to the trash bin then ? to begin with wrapping a 4k texture on a small to medium asset even on a 4k screen you will have hard time to look at it close enough to have 1:1 pixel ratio .....so 8k textures for games make almost no sense and it is just waste of space ....

you can tell its too early because buying 8 1tb drives would be half the price, 2tb units are finally starting to make sense, consoles haven't done much to push 2tb+ demand and with the leading game -warzone- reportedly not happy about taking 250gb, progress might take another decade games should be half a terabyte by now, all the 4k and pcie4 hype and we still stuck with 2011 textures I'm starting to worry that ps5 drive will spend its lifetime underused like the ps3's bluray
look at 870qvo,the 8tb version is cheaper than buying eight 1tb ones In fact, 600eur for a 8tb ssd,qlc or not,is really nice. For games what matters most is random read times, not writes or sequential speeds. It's about the same price as 4TB nvmes, for 4TB more space. I think sabrent is going crazy with this price, same as when they had the first pcie4 drive that cost an arm and a leg and turns out it wasn't even that great except for seqential benchmarks. It was old technology on a new connector.

I have a 4TB SSD, 2x1TB SSD, 6TB for games, not enough.

Sheeeeesh! That's crazy. I mean, there's no way you play more than half of those in a given 6 month timeframe though, right?

Actually I play alot of them. I am pretty ADD with games and get bored quick. I switch what I play alot. And I like to have a game installed even if I havent played it in a long time. Kinda of a game hoarder I guess.

I just added a 2TB Corsair MP600 Pro XT for my Steam games. OS is on a 1TB Corsair MP600. Other games on 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus General Data on a 1TB Samsung 870 Qvo SSD Doesnt take much to fill a 2TB drive nowadays with say RDR2 taking up 120GB and my DCS collection way bigger than that.

i like a clean build. but i'm also very value conscious, last summer Crucial released their P5+ (6,600 seq/700k iops). i have Sabrent Rockets as boot drives on two pc's (work and htpc) and have always liked them (not least for the cloning software). but i also have a DAW (Crosshair VIII Dark Hero) that i use for gaming (way better chair 😉) so i bought two P5+ 2Tb ($240 ea for Prime Day) - i'm the target audience for an 8Tb M.2 - but not @ $1.5K i ended up buying an OWC Express 4M2 - a 4 slot M.2 (pcie 3.0) TB3 for $350 large drives may have the greatest need for speed (largest files etc...) but i don't need that for a DAW so i loaded up on three 4Tb PCIe 3.0 (XPG SX8100) @ $399 ea - so now i have 12Tb AND a TB3 RAID enclosure for about the same as the 8TB @ $1,500 Sabrent
I have all my main (slower) storage on 4 x 10TB SATA III drives in same machine as the fast Sabrent drives. I keep "current" games on the second Sabrent and move older less used ones back onto one of the 10TB drives. Impossible and stupid really to attempt to keep all game library on one large expensive SSD IMO.

I am just using a crusial mx 500 512gb data SSD for games and I moved few to my hdds to make space for my current ones ... While I know my approach is pleblord galore I did not ever felt I need something more 😛 . But I know my usecase is personal and other than elden ring that consumed my life for 2 weeks I do not game that much anymore . From what I see 512gb data SSD will make a lot of people pull their hair out from the limited space ;p .

Similar... While I'm terrible at finishing games quickly I dont usually have many on the go at the same time. A 1TB OS/gaming SSD works great for me, holding over 12 games. Should I defy that, games I've not finished but havent played for some time are copied to hard drive, its easy to copy them back if I fancy another go. With my latest drive (18TB Ultrastar: sustained max 270, min 170MB/s), 100GB takes approx 8 mins to copy. Enough time to make and drink a coffee ... just. This happens rarely. Only if I became unreasonable would I need more higher speed space. My needs arent everyones though 🙂

My MOBO has the three NVMe drives under a cover (Asrock 570 Taichi) so it makes even more sense in that respect to use NVMe drives.

Makes most sense to run all three nvmes since ryzen 7 have enough lanes for each and gpu to run x16.

Yeah, i had two and asked on here about a third and any possible impact on performance, you may have been one of those who answered up with advice.

Must be really annoying having to keep shuffling the games from ssd to hdd ? Personally i use a samsung 980 pro nvme 2tb for my os / games that really benefit from speed. Then i have a samsung 860 4tb and two samsung 850 1tb sata ssd's, which are used for all the other games, and other stuff that needs to run on something faster than hdd's. And then the 4x 10tb drives for all non-speed sensitive stuff.

i used to be of the same opinion until i got rid of my spinners. i have pro/am use case scenarios that demand high speed drives, not just gaming. i wouldn't buy two pcie 4.0 m.2's just for gaming, when 9/10 times a 3.0 will offer virtually as good loading times. to be perfectly honest an Intel 660p is all a gamer needs as far as M.2 goes and if you're feeling spendy an Optane M.2

Nothing about buying PC parts makes any sense, nobody should spend £2k on a graphics card to play a game, but we do and its just the tip of the iceberg 😀

I planned on gaming 2 years behind the curve to keep costs sensible but when it came down to having 1/2 the gfx performance or less of current card releases another part of my brain took over. I'm not sure what happened going from a sub £700 1080ti and declaring I wouldnt go higher than £850 no matter what, to spending £1850. LOL. I tried to purchase a 3080 at release time and cost which would have fulfilled my wishes but when I couldnt get one or even see ANY cards in stock, I felt compelled to get a 3090 as soon as one appeared. More the fool me maybe, but I'm happy. However, this cards going to last me at least 4 years... Yeah, right.

I bought my 1080Ti for i think just under £700 on day of release and loved that card since i replaced it a couple of months ago. PC 'stuff' is my hobby so i dont have an issue spending money on it, yeah id rather spend less but if some costs a certain amount then il buy it or i wont, simples.

Not really too much trouble any more, like it used to be - since Steam, Origin etc stores added in the Move Game functionality to easily do it.
