Other then the hot wire/power connector this looks like a nice Vega 56 (at default or silent mode esp). Of course pricing and availability are a different story, but at MSRP this looks attractive to me.

These are more expensive than the faster 1080s here in the UK too, lol.

Assuming you actually could buy one over here, the price still makes the purchase totally unreasonable, other than, I guess, for mining purposes if that allows you to get the money back. I don't know about the "AMD video card + freesync screen" vs "Nvidia GPU + gsync screen" combo comparison price wise, but for me personally it would be a null point. I would never pay more for a card than what it's worth technology wise. Just like I would never buy concert tickets from a reseller for a bloated price. I suppose this situation is all the same for AMD, but it sure won't make people happy.

Nice card but the fact that the card makes some noise when turning on the fans is a big let down... It should be totally silent until the fans start to spin really fast.
I wonder if there´s a Vega card in the giveaway menu because the street prices are simply crazy, here in Portugal a stock Vega 56 costs more than 500€ and they are all out of stock...

a very nice card indeed. aside from the likelihood that most here would want to o.c., this (at m.s.r.p.)
is a fantastic 1440p card for freesync.
if you spend the same for a monitor, then you can have a kick-ass Ryzen 5 system for not much scratch, but with a big monitor and a nice card you can leave alone.

idk wtf is going on w/ availability. i got a reference Vega 56 at NewEgg two months ago at regular price.
this weird ass crypto crap makes some aftermarket cards more expensive than mine with the water block. i didn't buy a "bundle" card, just the card to replace an old gtx 980 that i had in the threadripper.
i'm using a LG 34uc80 (34" freesync 1440p)
and while i could use i more expensive card, i don't need to... 'tho i don't really game on it (fps drops vs. ryzen 7) except for mmo's and rpg's when i have the time there.

Enormous power consumption. Draws more energy than Titan Xp. And that's not even Vega 64. AMD should lower price some 30-40% down. And next time should not save on CUs with proper frequency and voltage.

Since it sits between 1070 and 1080, why have I the notion AMD cards draw more power for the same performance? I really don't know how I acquired this idea -but still think holds true.
Also, if the price the guy mentions ( about 700 - 800 ) is true, too, my next card will be either 1170 or 1160 ( assuming these will be the next Nvidia's names ).
I'd give my shite for a 1160 with HBM2 and about 280-300 euros. Yeah, I know, it's nice dreaming.

Not bad but in the end not good enough nvidia volta inc gg vega 🙁

The power usage is ridiculous. Feels like 2010 all over again

This is quite underwhelming and very late. I was able to overclock my 290 to 1120MHz recently so I'm okay for the time being 😀.
Anyway, I'm hoping that the rumored refresh happens and AMD is able to work out the power consumption issues. Along with lower HBM2 prices (more manufacturers and better yields), the refresh could be my next upgrade. Won't even wait for custom cards, will buy a ref. card and do something I've been wanting to try out for some time now - a custom liquid loop.

I don't understand how the after market Vegas are having a hard time getting higher clocks then the reference cards
Rich_Guy
As they (the reference cards) were pushed to their limits to get near the 1070/80s.

Was thinking about getting one, but consuming more power than a 1080ti while not beating 1080 and most of the time more expensive, sorry but nope.

All Vega 56 should be flashed with the Vega 64 BIOS and undervolted. I still don't know why these are being overvolted. Do those two things and you have a winner, easily.

Great review as always HH!! No one does them better! Thank You. 🙂
I hope you will have a chance to review the Sapphire Nitro 56/64.

The Vega 56 is sold at around 850 USD here, not really worth the money atm

Vega is not even available here, in largest city of Europe. Not a big loss, though.
