Perfect time for them to have "production issues."

These trolling, conspiracy theory posts have really gotta stop. It's sad that there are so many in this forum these days. What's next? "Oh, asteroid hit your factory? There's video evidence? The entire factory is gone? Too bad stop giving us excuses, we better not see a rise in price!"

Still, I just wait for the next unforseeable "catastrophe" to hit any RAM producer / factory in the next 7 months. And having issues to keep up with demand shows bad management, either by those releasing (not starting to manufacture soon enough?), and / or those producing (do you not want to make more money and ramp up production?). It's not like anything of the mentioned, the release of the consoles and graphics cards, comes as a surprise. I know it's not labled like this in the article, but people seemingly have forgotten how to read what's between the lines, because with higher demand due to new releases, increasing cost is automatically coming since you don't have increased offers... not sure there's much of "latest investigations" needed with that, beyond reasonable thought and an educated guess.

Brb, gonna order another 16gb of system memory while waiting for a 10gb Nvidia 3060.

It's almost typhoon season... need another flood or power outage... I think half the time it's price manipulation, the other half is a cover for the NSA or other intelligence agencies buying up a months' worth of product at once. A multi-billion dollar factory doesn't have battery backup or another power source? Sure. Rain can cause flooding in said multi-billion dollar factory? Sure bud. RAM and other semiconductor manufacturers have lied and been sued over this before.

Wait a minute. I thought the consoles were going to be using GDDR5 system memory/video memory? My fault entirely if they're going on GDDR6 memory. That would mean that only stuff lower than 150~200$ cards would be affected, things that are being phased out, and dead-stock cards already out of production. Things like Polaris-based cards which are already quite long-in-the-tooth and about 4 years old now. Unless they are made with HBM, which means it WILL NOT affect desktop / laptop / GPU memory prices, because the HBM memory is different stuff altogether. This would mean, at the least, it would only affect what would be new server and system memory format in late 2021/ early 2022 when it comes to desktop, and by then the 'new console buying craze' should have petered out a bit.

"One Western Digital HDD factory was flooded 18 years ago, also my cat was not happy today, better jack up DRAM prices by 3x forever." - Samsung, Micron, SK Hynix
