The only worrying thing about these Gen 4 SSD's and specially the faster ones is the almost reliance on some form of heatsink. Which some motherboards come with their own, but they might now need testing to find out if they meet the heat damand or you get one with a heatsink and then its hit or miss if your motherboard will fit it. Also makes me worry what Gen5 might mean? It may be better to replace sata connectors with a PCIe connect that you can mount something similar to a 2.5 drive that will help with heat

I take Crystal diskmark results with a grain of salt.....this is my 1tb rocket 4 plus.

that's pretty slow except for sequential reads I mean for a gen4 overall it's still gonna be fast in everyday use

*When writing 1 massive contiguous file. NAND advancements (basically just the controllers) may have doubled sequential speed over last generation but the 4KQ1T1 random read went from a max of about ~60MB/s to ~80MB/s. It would really nice to see some new technology start doubling 4KQ1T1 random read without the insane drawbacks that come with Optane.

This talk of "is it fast enough for the PS5" is a joke. The system can reach a peak of almost 9GB/s not a consistent speed at that. Being that it isn't going to be sitting at them speeds all the time in every situation. Something a lesser drive with as many iops could suffice for I'm sure.

How much does a HDD provide in the realm of 4k? Honestly want to know...

The true reason why there's no difference between solid state and hard disk drive on the PS4 is because the system has a sata 2 setup and not a 3 like my One X. Hard drive failed in my 1X. And I put in a 2 TB solid state drive. Games load unbelievably faster. Hence the Xbox One X has sata 3 drive support. That's why there's a difference. Being able to actually saturate over 600 Mbps.

While it's great with so fast writes it only really makes sense for a user with another fast SSD, copying from one to the other.
That's why I've put all of my solid state drives in a raid setup. I get 10,000 MB per second in a buffered read/write on three 500 GB Western digital blue solid state drives. And yes copying files between solid state to nvme is something nice. And or nvme to nvme. Shoot copying something from my phone with ufs 3.1 that's a large video file I can move a couple gigabytes in less than like 30 seconds.

One must understand a game is developed a certain way at that particular time. All of these games are older in regards to being available well before the PS5. Games are going to readily take advantage of these fast drives here soon. Already saw a drastic uptick in my one X loading times having to slap in an SSD in lieu of my bad HDD. Especially in red dead redemption 2! Like more than double the load times on standard HDD.

some game do see most dont and most on PC wont, cause I done see NVME replacing SSD and "mainstream" any time soon to, and most games dont use extra "random" read speed of the Sata SSD yet, yes the can be amazing when actual uses Read sync speeds

Gamers still have no use for them. Games will load just as fast on a cheap sata ssd.
I actually skipped the whole SATA SSD generation and went from SATA HDD to NVME. The only game where I noticed a big difference in gameplay was Kingdom Come Deliverance. That game hated my HDD. But the main reason I went with NVME was because it doesn't require any cables and its faster, but there is a negative. On my mainboard it's almost parallel with my GPU which makes it run about 5 degrees hotter. So yea I can see NVME's in the near future coming with stock heatsinks. As for the PS5 and XSEX, those systems aren't even close to being fully utilized yet.

Its bad on a truly epic level. They sell flash drives with better 4K speed than HDDs.

This had scratching my head from the beginning. Unless they jumped a generation to PCIe 5, started using PCIe X8 or X16 or went Optane the whole "fast enough for the PS5" really can't be anything other than "any decent PCIe 4X4 SSD will be enough".
