Exactly, good Z390 motherboards are powerfull enough to handle 10core Coffee Lakes, hell my Apex XI doesn't even hit peak VRM efficiency with the 9900K at 1.35v... This is a srsly garbage move from Intel...

I think the attempt of delivering pci express 4.0 is the reason why they started with another chipset. May it be?

They should kill it unless they get PCIe 4.0.

PCIe 4.0 is a feature of LGA 1200 but Intel pulled PCIe 4.0 support from their initial LGA 1200 CPUs. As mentioned above, there is literally no reason to buy these boards.

Why did they pull the plug on pci-e 4? There must be some grand reason because this alone makes people just forget that these boards will exist..

This new chipset does not serve a purpose as a viable upgrade over Z390 LGA 1151 motherboards without PCIe4.I own both X299 and Z390 systems so I can upgrade my X299 system to the new 1090X if needed.

this is the reason why I switched to TRX40 not only I wanted more lanes but those cpu and chipsets are not up to the M.2 super fast USB 3.x world we live in today it still works ok but who buys high-end diy pc parts that are obsolete already ?

A few sources mentioned something about the PCIe signal integrity not being clean enough. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-drops-PCIe-4-0-support-for-upcoming-Comet-Lake-desktop-CPUs-postpones-launch-to-April.451046.0.html
Given their current situation pcie 4 was quite literally the least they could do. What the hell happened to them.. its not like amd will become the new intel cuz they don't have the greed but seeing a monster like intel fail at what it does is just weird at this point.

People in charge at Intel held onto failed ideas for enough time that AMD caught and passed them. The failure to achieve 10nm and resisting the move to a chiplet architecture absolutely screwed Intel. High core count monolithic 10nm was the dream and never materialized. This happened before. When Intel planned on pushing NetBurst to 10 ghz and failed to achieve even 4 ghz this opened the door for AMD to sail right past them with their socket 939 CPUs. Intel has deep pockets and investors that will make demands, they will right the ship and by 2022ish will have a new killer architecture (it will be chiplets).
