Hm, okay. Well, on the 256gb ssd I should have my OS and all my music programs and games? Then practically every "save file" I do has to be put on the HDD? I feel that 256Gb ssd will be used up fairly quick because some programs I use are 20+ gigs. I just want the computer to be fast and efficient so if one ssd and one HDD is the way to go then what should I get for both ssd(now knowing how much space I can easily use) and hdd.
you don't put your music on a SSD. you put it on a HDD. Only use SSD for OS, apps (whatever it might be, you know, music players, media players, photoshop, office etc) and the rest of the space for a few games (depending on the size of the SSD) I only have a 64gb SSD and have W7 on it, all the apps and still have 26gb left so I can put 1 or 2 games on it if I choose so.

I've had a chance to use a computer with 768gb of all SSD. This thing had 32gb of ram, gtx 680, and 3770k. The start up times were within seconds and programs opened in a flash. I don't know if that's all due to the SSD but that's what I've heard you can expect from it. But now I'm confused as to what I should do. All SSD or combo?! And where do my programs go? OS, Pro Tools(with all 3rd party programs/expansions that could run nearly 100G all ready) and game files are huge! So what to do?! Agh...

You were too quick for me haha. Well, I use steam and I guess you could always do the delete local content thing to get it off your hd but keep in steam library. I'm beginning to become overwhelmed! Haha...other than the ssd issue, the rest of the pc works? What do you think?

Windows, Installed programs and possibly a game that uses texture streaming go on the SSD, everything else is kept on your HDD. Yes this means every "save file" is put on the HDD. Disabling System Restore, Hibernation, Recycle Bin and PageFile will save you heaps of space on the SSD. Some files like those used for 3D rendering or transcoding could be put on SSD also, but you prob don't have any..... The FF or Chrome default download location can be changed in the options menu so it any downloads automajically go to the correct folder. The location of Windows Documents/Pictures/Video etc folders can also be changed in Folder Properties. Btw what apps do have that are 20GB?

about R3508 thats rand thats 233 pounds around there... is alot

3508 rand is £233. 256gb 840 pro costs around £180 here. so while it's true it's a bit more expensive in SA, it's still worth it. Hey a 64gb SSD used to cost over £100 less than 2 years ago.

Pro tools, different software instruments from Native Instruments are close to 20 like guitar rig, reaktor(with plug ins), abbey road drums, etc.. I'm just worried I won't have enough room to run these programs and have them run seamlessly with each other because I use most every program at the same time. And I definitely want to game. Bioshock infinite, left for dead 2, gtaIV, the new final fantasy coming soon, dishonored, and much more..

a 128gb SSD will be more than enough for all that and a couple of games.

yeah, but an SSD is just so much faster when it comes to running every day tasks. much much faster.

Okay so its settled then, though i may be apprehensive I trust you guys. So I'll probably still get the 256GB Samsung....but as far an an HDD goes, what should I get? And also every other part i posted sounds good?..

if u need space i would say a 4tb or more 🙂 but depends how much u need get them pretty cheap!!! 🙂

as far as the HDD goes, you can pretty much get any "backup" drive, like a WD green etc. doesn't have to be fast. although, if you're running games from it too, then buy something faster, like a WD Black or a Seagate of some sort. again, depending on how much storage you need, 1TB-3TB, there's a lot of options out there.

i would consider for anything else external so u can carry it around maybe where ever u go 🙂

I was thinking 2tb Western Digital....actually just looking at them right now. Lets say I ran a game or a program i couldn't fit on my ssd for music because i needed the space.....a 6gb/s 7200 rpm hdd would run just as fast as a SSD or where are we in comparison?

running games from HDDs is fine most of the time, some games have improved loading times and in some games where there's textures being streamed in, it's better to run those from SSDs. Main benefit of SSD will be seen when you run your OS from it. seriously, they boot so fast and once your in your desktop, everything is ready to go. You'll love it.
