shocker. then again I disabled the task shedular on my win7 systems so that GWX couldnt even run or start up. In the end they want everyone on win 10 and they tricked alot people into doing so

When it was released Windows 10 had some "hiccups" , but now with the 14.393 build vesion it is well polished and I'm happy using it everyday 🙂

The problem is, Windows 10 remains a very broken thing not for the things it breaks, but how things are getting broken. The current method of Windows Updates in Windows 10 lacks any real form of control, and this isn't a desired control born from paranoia, but it's an issue of productivity; most updates are good and should be installed, but through the years I've found a handful of updates I've chosen to not install during an update cycle only to find that those updates get pulled or patched further because they caused undesired effects on systems, OR on the other hand, some updates I choose not to install is because it breaks something else that I currently require working at that point in time, so I update everything else but hold off on that one or two patches for a month or so, thus ensuring stability. They've made being able to choose which updates get installed require a separate tool (which we don't know how long they're going to keep it working and updated), and even worse, they're choosing to disclose less technical information on updates themselves, making it harder to identify what changes and what subsystems will be touched and avoid potential conflicts beforehand. But the worst of it? The big "updates" every six months which are clearly just in-place windows upgrade installs. (think "Upgrade" option when installing Windows 7 over Windows Vista, and the like) I HAD installed Windows 10 from when it was first offered, but the cycle of it breaking things and me scrambling to fix them every month or so was too time consuming, and thus ultimately had to reformat this computer in November back to Windows 7 to ensure that I spent less time fixing things and more time actually getting things done. I think the LTSB is the edition that will solve my issues with Windows 10, but those are Enterprise-only, confusingly enough. What we all need is an LTSB version of Windows 10 for the consumer, not just enterprise.

It was a dick move by Microsoft... people should not be coerced into installing it (even if "accidentally"). I'm not excusing them at all for it. At the same time I think Windows 10 is good and it would be foolish for the vast majority of people to not upgrade while it was free. It's not hard to disable the alleged spying features or Cortana either. With about 10 minutes of tweaking it's a great OS.

Also, the fact that it automatically deletes programs without consent is another thing that aggravates me to no end.

Class Action Lawsuit then?

Windows 10 was pushed too aggressively!??!? No ****ing **** Sherlock.
Hey atlest we have very good chance of DX12 actual becoming the defacto API used instead of DX9 still being used in this day in age.... maybe... probably not

Hold on can you clarify this in a little more detail, during my rush to find as much reason to hate Win 10 as I could find I seem to have missed this fact. (just kidding about finding reason to hate on Win 10 I just didn't want to be forced to use it, that's all.)

When Upgrading from say Win7/8 to Windows 10 programs can be deleted, when Upgrading from 1 build of win 10 to another build (TH2>RS1) programs can be deleted I had it happen to Spybot S&D on 3 diffrent machines when upgrading from win 7/8 to win 10 and again when upgading from 1 build to another

i dont think most people understand microsoft forced agenda with win 10 , the plans for win10 is to put it on household utilitys like fridges, showers ,so basically force in ito your home everyone needs a fridge and a shower and guess what it have win10 and cortana on it which means no escape , theres only two places where theres no camera watching you thats your home and your car , microsoft is gonna take over your home and google your car, i remeber when cctv cameras first appeared people were nervous but now few years on people dont care , cameras in peoples homes via cortana on your fridge and shower , very very scary
Only there are two cameras, an accelerometer, two microphones, a gyro, a GPS/GLONASS and a ton of other stuff that you carry with you wherever you are. It's funny how all the privacy nuts are ok with Android. Not that I approve of Windows 10, but it at least allows you to close more things than Android ever will. And before you say you can make Android safe while rooting it at the same time to close basic services, then you truly have no clue.

Changing the function of the cancel/close X button to accept the update and install it in the background was no mistake
I'm not convinced of that. They admitted it happened but not that it was done on purpose. If it was, that's bad of course, but I'm not convinced.

I have some contracts on PC's with several private individuals. It was a nightmare when I went to fix problems (satisfy the user) because they had unknowingly updated to W10. W10 free? Where?

Now if auto update could only be disabled on ENTERPRISE versions of Windows 10...

It would be nice if they put back the ability to control windows update like previous versions of Windows...

if they ever bring back the free upgrade option I might go for it- NOT!

LOL this makes me laugh I mean unless you're a luddite, nothing was pushed on you. Any savvy PC gamer always has Windows updates and BITS turned off....

That's only for the paranoid tin foil hat models. My WU in 10 is set to automatic and it has never caused a problem. In Windows 7, it's on notify me of updates. My laptop still has 7 and I never saw anything really out of line. I just got that GWX thing but that was easy to get rid of. I've never even considered turning BITS off. You go messing around with things like that and that's how you wind up with a broken OS and then MS gets blamed.

You don't really need that. Even if WU is set on automatic, it will not install anything until the computer has not been used for a while. I've done the restart myself every time because when I checked , it said it was scheduled to happen when the machine was not being used. I also have never had an issue with any Windows Update in any version of Windows I have used. Not in 98SE, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and now 10.
