MS should have partnered with Nvidia not AMD. While 6TFLOPs is a nice improvement, my 1080 can easily push 11TFLOPs at it's stable boost frequency of 2200mhz while gaming. Obviously my GPU is expensive compared to a console and doesn't include the rest of my PC. I wish they did more to future proof the console. Whether or not they intend to to compete with OC's they are. Sustainability running 60FPS, ultra graphics in 4K won't happen when games get more complex every year. The only console I own is a Nintendo Switch because i appreciate what Nintendo did with their system. I don't expect excellent PC quality graphics by any means since it's Nintendo. Other consoles have more they need to live up to these days. I won't buy a new Xbox or PlayStation because I own a nice PC that I built. I still believe consoles are good for everyday people, not serious gamers.

it is not zen it is jaguar cores
Yep, it's just slightly revised Jaguar, absolute trash. They're getting away with this tablet level trash because they supposedly have built in hardware for DX12 instructions which would would have to otherwise be run on the CPU. MS claim this reduces the CPU load by 50%.

Sad part is people actually believe this hardware is capable of 4k gaming.

Quite slow for 4k indeed. Just slightly faster than PS4 Pro.

Wait.....I'm seeing some talk online that the graphics are comparable to a 1070 or fury x. How can it have the graphic power of a 1070 when a 1070 costs as much as the whole system? Not exactly something I would like to hear after spending 16000nt(~500USD) on a video card not even a year ago to have a video game console almost matching it.

My thought exactly seems a little light for proper 4K gaming

Question is can your rig run Forza 4 @ 4k at 60 fps with only 66% gpu loading? Optimisations MS has achieved with Scorpio, you'll need 11 Teraflops gpu to keep up on the PC.
data/avatar/default/avatar09.webp
Seem's perfectly capable for 4K look at gpu usage only 66% at 4K on Forza 4 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C8u0qKzUMAEJkgH.jpg
That's just one (undemanding) game. My 1070 can play forza apex at 60fps in 4k just fine on max settings 4x msaa. If the xbox S gpu is near 1070 level performance, it makes sense that it could too. Every other game however is another story. Let's not forget that the cpu is utter trash and with the average overclock on most 1070's (2050mhz like mine) are pushing 7.8tflops or more.

Then why millions of people own both a Ps4 and an Xbox-one then? There can be serious gamers on console. Plus 4K isn't everything. Not many people own 4K monitors/TVs compared to 1080p. Plus if MS were to team with Nvidia It would add more money to the price of the console. Plus the console's performance might be the same as it is the specs currently shown for the new xbox-one.

Yes the cpu is under powered, but MS has placed DX12 command processor API directly on to the gpu silicon. This basically reduces rendering workload on the cpu by 50%, if the game is DX12. What's the utilisation on your 1070? at 4k 60 fps? Scorpio is 6 TFlops basically 66% is only using roughly 3.96 TFlops of the available power. Still roughly 2 TFlops of power leftover for more complex games.

Flops on gpus don't really mean a whole especially when comparing Nvidia and amd, Nvidia depending on the gen almost always has less flops compared to the amd equivalent but usually perform better so flops really don't mean squat

Here's the thing with Scorpio and the numbers given to us so far, consoles are streamlined. They do not promise to offer the best quality in visuals, or flexibility. They offer a "cheaper" less demanding environment to play games. These are a few main reasons there are a number of professional leagues on consoles. Look at it like this, chances are most people are not sitting as close to their TV and Xbox as you would a PC and a monitor, so some visual difference you will not notice. CPU I would not worry about too much either, DX12 has shown to scale very well across multiple cores and lower powered cores at that. As long as the GPU can take some of the brute, and the 12gb of GDDR5 memory isn't bottlenecked by say the chipset for example, or the cpu core, then I'd say Scorpio is in the perfect balance of performance per dollar if the numbers line up with the actual performance.

They mean a ton when your API and game design is tailored to squeezing every bit of performance out of it.

With those numbers being slightly more powerful than the PS4 pro I can see maybe a few titles being 4K and that is pushing it. Including sports games.

All i need now is news of the price and the trade in deal MS will be offering to upgrade to the Scorpio fpor XB1 owners, i am hoping £399 at best, £450 at worse, any more then i will wait and catch a deal at some point, my days of paying £420 launch consoles are long gone, 20gig phat PS3 saw to that. lol

I haven't checked my utilization yet. If it's over 66%, I'm sure I could lower my settings until it is. Unless I'm missing something, they never said what the quality was like in comparison to pc settings.

quality was xbone setings blasted in 4k resolution so medium-low 4x af and fxaa maybe se there!

So, they should have omitted x86, backwards compatibility, the vastly programmable nature of a GPU design made from scratch to be used with various programs along graphics, a reliable partner of years, and price. So that they can put a ~220W GPU in there. Uh-huh. Also the machine already behaves more or less like a GTX 1070, and that's being run by a 245W PSU. Like, all of it is using probably absolutely max ~210W when everything is being used full tilt. They also said that the machine is made to play XboxOne games at 4k, with 4k assets, with the same or better framerates than the XboxOne. This seems to accomplish all of that and giving you automatic nice supersampling AA if you use it for 1080p.

Very well said. Makes me wonder how many titles will be able to do 4k. My guess the easiest games to do 4K would be sports games.
